Name:[/i] Kent Shields
Age:[/i] 18
Gender: [/i] Male
Race: [/i] Hylian
Homeland:[/i] Hyrule
Class/Job (optional):[/i] Sword Knight / Paladin / Mage Knight
Appearance:[/i] Standing roughly 5’10, weighing around 146 pounds, Kent’s muscular form is lightly tanned and well taken care of. While his build is in-between lean for males and athletic, that doesn’t deter his training any. Kent’s eyes are a rich emerald color, their dark green depths speckled with jade, deepening the appearance of the stone they resemble. His ebony tresses are tousled more often than not, though they remain more or less at the same manageable length. One of the more noticeable things about his appearance is under the sleeve of his shirt, though. A deep red scar is visible on both sides of his left shoulder, leaving an indent in the skin several inches long. It pains him when there is cold weather, but remains sore from having recently acquired it in the last several months.
- Attire (Three mains): He generally adorns a sleeveless tan shirt, the hem inching just far enough to cover the scar and give room to move still. It is close fitting, but no too close as to not allow decent range and flexibility. The hem is tucked inside of his forest green trousers, overlapped by a simple brown belt. On this belt is the strap that connects his sheath to it, but both are in the same plain brown leather as his boots. His boots themselves only go halfway up his calves, but have a stiff braces that protects his shins on the inside of them.
Kent’s second notable change of garments mainly consists of dazzling white, in both cape and tunic. The tunic is made of sturdy enough cloth, its long-sleeved apparel fitting snugly except to where it loosens at the waist. A platinum-steel combination of metals makes up his breastplate, the straps crossing in a brown “X” across his back when fastened. Farore’s crest is visible in pale green, inscribed across the heart. Pale jade green breeches incase his legs, which are then tucked into brown boots that reach his knees. The boots are simple enough in design, although alloy bands encircle his ankles and tip the toes of them. A deep green cloth is fastened around the top of the boot, knotted so the short ends dangle in the front slightly. He wears two belts with this ensemble, one like usual and the other at an angle. The angled one holds his sword, as well as another weapon. His cape is a startling white on the top side, and emerald green on the underside.
His final, formal outfit is fairly simple in overall comparison to the last. His dress tunic is of softer material than usual, and his breeches are a soft beige. While the tunic is a forest green, golden thread trims the hem to set off the colors. Being a Knight, his sword still accompanies his garments, though is highly polished to reveal the seemingly steel hilt was simply tarnished platinum coating it. His forest green cape falls even to the floor.
Weapons/Armor/Magic: [/i]
- Weapons: Kent’s longsword is mainly solid steel, only its hilt coated in platinum. Farore’s crest is raised on the top of the hilt itself, having received it from his father when he was Knighted. The blade is well polished and whetted at all times, Kent feeling that it should remain ‘new’ as long as possible. While the hilt doesn’t have a leather grip, it has become very familiar in his hand.
- Armor: While there is usually a stiff guard on the inside of his boots, protecting his shins, he also gains alloy bands around his ankles and tipping the toes of his boots when obtaining his second main attire. Also accompanying that is a steel breastplate, Farore’s crest visible across the heart of it.
- Magic: Despite that magic is not Kent’s main source of ability, he still holds a fair hold over the natural woods and plant-related powers.
Hobbies/Occupations:[/i] He enjoys doing charcoal sketches of all varieties, though tends to draw horses and people more frequently. After encountering Selena, he grew to where he oftentimes drew her, whether she realized it or no.
Skills/Abilities: [/i]
- Skills: Well trained in the art of fencing by his father, their unique style is used by few. This gives him an edge in battle when exercising it, and is also what earned him his position as a Knight of Hyrule. Kent is fairly good at teaching others as well, though mainly in the basics of fencing and agility, using the same teachings used on him.
- Abilities: Rather like sensing essences, Kent eventually grows to where he can sense an “aura”. More or less the outside of one’s essence, telling the overall gist of things and alignments.
Personality:[/i] Kent is equally content to be silent as to talk, and prefers not to draws his blade unless there is true need, or to fence (practice). He’ll gladly risk his life for his Princess, though he kills as little as possible. The thought of snuffing the light of life needlessly disgusts him, going against his principles. Kent, unlike his half-brother, finds chivalry enactments of respect, among other things. Though he prefers kindness, he’s not above occasional harshness. Particularly to his turn-sword half-brother, Kain.
He bears hatred for Kain, ever since he attacked their fellow Knights. Yet the dislike continued to grow, when his half-brother made a point to interfere with his personal life - Such as attacking his companions, when they chanced to meet. Even attempting to kill them. Though Kain is one of the few he bears a grudge against, Kent makes a point to try hiding the uncouth emotion. Especially around Selena.
The Knight, however, is perspective. He notices small details even as he does larger ones, and is skilled at telling when someone is being dishonest. Kent is very well in control of his emotions, usually only showing those of his choice. However, it is rare when they grow out of control or openly display themselves. Even so, he remains protective of his allies.
Bio/History:[/i] His father was a Knight in the Hylain army, his mother trained in the art of healing. Kent’s only sibling is an older half-brother, who’s dam died in childbirth.
Kain, whom was two years older, was something of a role-model for most of Kent’s childhood. Their father taught them how to use a sword, and Kain was Kent’s most frequent fencing partner.
Yet their trust and friendship began dissolving when Kent reached his thirteenth spring, Kain having been accepted into the Knight’s ranks. Kain, headstrong and now impudent, clearly enjoyed handling a sword to kill. The knowledge distanced them, Kent humiliated that his half-brother was breaking several vows of Knighthood.
Kent began avoiding Kain for the most part, aside from keeping tabs on his half-brother’s actions. His training sessions, for the next two years, no longer included his half-brother.
His long aspired dream was fulfilled when Hyrule’s regent Knighted him at fifteen, fourteen old Zelda observing the occasion. But there was no avoiding Kain once they were in the same barracks.
Kain was now striving to prove his superiority, defeating Kent in fencing whenever possible. The matches were always close, due to the fact that they both used their father’s technique. When Kent prevailed, Kain had trouble keeping his temper in cheek - Much less accepting loss with grace, as was expected. Yet the duo’s swordsmanship was nearly unrivaled, thus making them candidates for the Princess’s personal guard.
So, despite their personal conflict, they were given the honor of joining the Royal Guard when Kent turned sixteen. Soon afterwards, their father, who was also in the guard, was murdered. Many suspected mercenaries, though Kent had the unsettling notion that his half-brother was guilty of the act. Kent’s mother soon followed, dying of poisoning. A Gerudo puff adder’s venom had been slipped into her drink. Once again, he had a suspicion, yet could not prove it.
Two months from Kent’s eighteenth year, Kain opening turned on his fellow Knights. The duo clashed, though Kent was both disarmed and wounded by his half-brother. Kain had killed three other Knights, but vanished from Kent’s life when the young Knight passed out from blood loss.
Only for a time, unfortunately.
Memory of an unsettling dream accompanied his awakening, a faerie telling him to find Farore’s Guardian - To unleash the full powers of Wood, before the Holder was in greater peril.
Likes:[/i] Selena (& company), musical and imagery arts such as singing or sketches, horses, and nature (Wooded areas by far being his favorite).
Dislikes:[/i] Kain, Bublins, mercenaries in general, and places of extreme heat.
Weaknesses/Strengths: [/i]
- Weaknesses: Though it takes much to truly anger him, when Kent is pushed beyond what most would be able to handle, he seems vastly changed. Bringing his companions into a conversation, threateningly, is enough to tip him … Even to where he would kill. But as anger is distracting, and it does not give true strength, it is enough to make several of his attacks unsteady.
- Strengths: Skilled in agility from his training, he tends to exploit that in battle. He also uses his unique style to gain an upper edge, and then sometimes creates an obstacle course out of roots and branches. Using this for both personal training with himself and Selena, it also ensnares his opponents. Kent also enjoys dancing, and is fairly good at it.
