Hey there, and welcome to my Super Mario Galaxy 2 Star Analysis.
In each post, I will give a brief Difficulty Analysis and Explanation for all 122 Gold Power Stars in the game.
WARNING! THESE WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION.
World One - Standard and Secret Stars
Sky Station Galaxy - Peewee Piranha's Temper Tantrum
Difficulty: 1/10
This is the first Star in the game, so you should've expected this. The enemies are very basic (Goombas and Octoombas, for example); the platforming is simple; and the boss?
...Peewee Piranha is very similar to Dino Piranha from Galaxy 1. Except this boss requires eight hits to beat. And he's a little faster. Still really, really easy though.
Sky Station Galaxy - Storming the Sky Fleet
Difficulty: 2/10
Another easy stage for the first galaxy. Don't let the Banzai Bills intimidate you outside the ship. There's a Rainbow Star nearby. ^_^ The only trouble spots here are the electric Amps inside the Sky Fleet and dodging the last Banzai Bill...a bit of timing can remedy that, though.
Yoshi Star Galaxy - Saddle Up With Yoshi
Difficulty: 2/10
Ah, Yoshi. The classic partner for Mario's adventures. Sorry, Luigi. XD
This stage, being an introduction to Yoshi's controls, is extremely easy...except for the very last portion, where a badly timed Flower grab can spell impending disaster. Still, though, nothing to cry over.
Yoshi Star Galaxy - Spiny Control
Difficulty: 2/10
You'd better know how Spinies can be dealt with for this stage. It is a very simple technique though, so nothing too bad. The boss, Giga Lakitu (who I thought was Lakithunder originally) is still very easy. He's one of those bosses stupid enough to bombard you with ammunition. >_>
Spin-Dig Galaxy - Digga-Leg's Planet
Difficulty: 1/10
Yup, the third galaxy tones it down again. This galaxy introduces you to the Spin Drill...which annoyingly, you cannot throw away without getting hurt or finding a Launch Star. It is a simple course, obviously, as it's an introduction. Digga-Leg isn't a problem, the little drills he summons can be...but he never produces enough to be a threat. Poor guy.
Spin-Dig Galaxy - Silver Stars Down Deep
Difficulty: 1/10
Silver Stars...blame Super Mario 64 DS for their sudden abundance. Anyhow, this Star is, frankly, pathetic. The only trouble is the Amps in one section...and that's nothing. The Silver Stars are easy to collect with a little observation, and trial and error.
Fluffy Bluff Galaxy - Search for the Toad Brigade Captain
Difficulty: 2/10
The Cloud Flower first appears here. Its cloud creation ability is required pretty much everywhere here. Nothing much to say. It's easy cloud climbing. Just don't ground-pound. (Found out why the hard way. >_>)
Fluffy Bluff Galaxy - The Chimp's Stomp Challenge
Difficulty: 4/10
Oh boy, the Chimp, self-proclaimed gaming master. Jerk. That's my position and you know it!
Anyhow, he wants you to attain 10,000 points in a special version of Fluffy Bluff (that's bloated with enemies) in 2 minutes. The point system is pretty generous so long as you can make multi-stomps often. Just keep spinning in mid-air. However, one thing that's easily missed is that the sole 1-Up in the galaxy available is worth 1000 points when collected. ^_^
Fluffy Bluff Galaxy - Every Planet has its Price
Difficulty: 2/10
Hungry Lumas in galaxies want coins to feed on...who eats coins, anyway? Regardless, this first one wants the most coins in the game - 100! Why not just steal one life?
Strangely, the difficult part isn't in the planet the Luma makes (It's more cloud climbing. Yay. *eyeroll*) but in finding 100 coins and the Luma itself.
Flip-Swap Galaxy - Think Before You Shake
Difficulty: 3/10
...One way to explain this. Since a few people here are Tropers, here's your explanation. "Damn You Muscle Memory!"
Why? Well, by now, you should've gotten used to gaining a small boost in airtime by spinning in a jump which you can use to save yourself.
In this galaxy, the spin changes which platforms are platforms, and which platforms are...holes. Once you get used to it, it's pretty easy. In fact, you can clear the stage without spinning once. I've done it. ^_^
Rightside Down Galaxy - Breaking the Laws of Gravity
Difficulty: 2/10
Back to gravity shenanigans, I see. (Yay!)
There are arrows on the walls warning you which direction you fall. Blue for normal, pink for inverted, green for....sideways? OK, game...
The tricky bit is getting used to controlling a flipped Mario. XD That's it.
Rightside Down Galaxy - The Great Crate Incinerator
Difficulty: 4/10
Who here remembers the "Bomb Trash" missions in Galaxy 1? Well, Galaxy 2 has "Box Burning". Yeah...
This one can be a little tough owing to having to fire fireballs (redundancy, yay) at tricky angles. Plus, you have 20 seconds to work with to burn 25 boxes. Thank goodness the fireballs are penetrating...
Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla - Gobblegut's Aching Belly
Difficulty: 5/10
The first boss stage is pretty short, and filled with normal castle-esque traps. Nothing to comment on...
The boss, although, ugh...I hate it. Gobblegut is a loooooong dragon-type creature with six lumps along its body. To win, you have to wait for him to dive into the planet and for the lumps to get stuck before attacking. Easy at first, but he's so long, by the time you try to attack the ones near the back, he can ambush you. Not fun.
World One - Prankster Comet Stars
Sky Station Galaxy - Peewee Piranha's Speed Run
Difficulty: 2/10
Twenty seconds to beat the first stage of the game? Really?
...No. Nintendo's not that sadistic.
You have to collect clocks along the course which add 10 seconds to your time. There are about four or five on the boss planet itself. Quite simple considering the clocks in a couple of places can only be gotten by taking shortcuts.
Yoshi Star Galaxy - Spiny Rainbow Romp
Difficulty: 2/10
This mission requires you to use 5 Rainbow Stars to beat up 30 Spinies. This is pretty simple provided you know where the Spinies are located...which takes getting used to.
Spin-Dig Galaxy - Digga-Leg's Daredevil Run
Difficulty: 3/10
Beat Digga-Leg without getting hurt? Not too bad.
One word of warning: Beware the yellow drills. They can hurt you if you don't watch. That is all.
Flip-Swap Galaxy - Purple Coin Flip 'n' Sprint
Difficulty: 1/10
Now that by now you should be used to the flipping mechanic, getting all the coins here is simple. Just be sure not to smash into a Chain Chomp.
Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla - Fiery Flotilla Speed Run
Difficulty: 6/10
The time here (2 minutes) isn't the problem. The fact you have no Life Shroom to back you up is. Caution and time limits don't mix. Hence the high rating.
Worlds 2-6 and S coming soon!
