My first LK character, whom I created a few months ago, rewritten to better quality while keeping the same essence. This is her base form without any alternations, but is also set for the fanfiction she is featured in. Other additions or alter-egos will be added in spoilers at a later time should they come up.
Name: Kina
- Name Meaning: Deep
Age: Adolescent-Adult / 2.5 Years
Gender: Female
Species: Panthera Leos (Lion)
Appearance: Kina is four feet tall at the shoulder, weighing close to 270 pounds. She has the slender build of an Outlander, though is a bit fuller than them. Despite that the young lioness is teetering in between the brink of adolescents and adulthood, it is doubtful she will grow any more. However, she has learned to make use of her petite proportions. While she can be overpowered by stronger lions or lionesses, she is far quicker and more agile. Her sleek russet pelt is well groomed, lithe and rippling muscle underneath clearly visible when on the move. The lioness’s subpelt is soft sandy beige, while her paws are the same color as the rest of her pelt. The pads of her paws are black, hardened from travel. Kina’s crystal blue eyes are fairly expressive, showing what she is feeling even if her voice betrays nothing. The young female’s black nose resembles that of an Outlander, but her features are overall relatively appealing. She is, however, missing a small nick from the top of her right ear. A thin strip up the back of that same ear also has beige fur, where it grew back in from after a battle.
Personality: The young female is perspective, missing little. She usually picks up on her surroundings quickly, and is a fairly good judge of character. However, due to her inexperience with even being around males for most of her life so far, she is somewhat naive as to possibly hidden intentions despite being able to pick out a threat clearly enough. If the need or suspicion should arise in almost any situation, though, she will not hesitate to lash out in attack. At the same time, however, once someone has earned her trust or friendship, they earn a protective eye from the lioness. Kina is kind hearted underneath her wary exterior, and will go out of her way to help someone that is in need – Be it if they are wounded, ill, or simply in need of comfort. She herself remembers a time when she was in a similar position, and thus does her utmost to soothe it with others. Even so, she is easily flustered when given praise, and the effect is magnified when it is from a male. Yet, despite her overall nature, she is extraordinarily stubborn. She’ll refuse to give in even if injured, and it oftentimes takes much to change her mind. From that same stubbornness, though, is a fierce loyalty to those she cares about. If she has to take injury to those she believes deserve protection, so be it. And while the prospect of joining a pride is a somewhat enticing thought, she takes pride in surviving well on her own.
History: Being the daughter to a pair of rogues, she and her brother Ahi were able to remain with them for the first six weeks of their life until necessity struck. Although they had managed to nurse for a minimal amount of time, the shortness of it would also stunt their growth in the end. However, when they were abandoned, they were still young cubs. As such young children, though, they succumbed to exhaustion easily under the savannah sun. After several cub-watch “guarded” naps between the two of them, they eventually stumbled across an unused waterhole. It was there they spent the next four moonspans, living off of fish and whatever came their way. They learned to swim out of necessity to catch the larger fish in the waterhole, and to climb to escape some of the larger predators that would’ve eaten them.
By their fifth moonspan, an adult rogue had found her way to the waterhole during her wanderings. And not a moment too soon. Under the noonday sun, was a small group of hyenas snapping at ripe pickings for a meal. Being much larger than the cubs at the time, the duo were easily overpowered. Whilst the lioness had no kin-related reason to step in, fur went flying. By the time the spotted canines had turned tail and ran, Kina was huddled over Ahi’s limp form. Her brother’s soft sandy pelt was stained with unnatural crimson at his throat and back, and she was old enough to know what it meant. Tears mingled with the already drying blood as the rogue sat down next to her, gently drawing the cub away from her fallen brother. Kina forever bore the mark of that day in the form of a permanent injury, the upper section of her right ear torn off from a hyena bite. It served as a physical remembrance to her, even if later in life it would serve to make her somewhat self conscious as well.
The motherly rogue was kind enough to take Kina under her paw, though, looking after the cub the best she could. Kuukeni proved to be an adept huntress and mother, teaching the smaller lioness everything she knew. Picking up the slender female’s techniques proved interesting, as well as learning that her smaller-then-usual size wasn’t a disadvantage. Rather than relying on sheer strength, agility and accuracy could take down prey and threats just as easily. It would just take sharper wits. However, as Kina grew, life took an unexpected turn on her second year. While their den remained safely secluded from the other prides surrounding the area, hunting never came without its risks. Her adopted mother had been clipped with a prey’s hoof during their hunt, and oddly enough seemed more alive than ever after that.
Now all but an adult, she and Kuukeni decided that perhaps they could part ways for a time. They would meet again sometime in the future, the Spirits willing. For the next five moons, she has been wandering from place to place. While they had been a pair of rogues her entire life, moving from time to time, it was different to be completely alone. She’s had a variety of experiences in her time already, and manages to put several to use. For now, though, she merely continues to move through the savannahs. Accepting life as it comes at her, and making the most of her travels. Times of strife and times of joy, a mix of dark and light.
Skills: Kina is a fairly skilled huntress, and surprisingly swims well. She also is good at maneuvering her way through trees, being rather small for her species. And finally, she has become familiar with certain plants – Ones that do good, and ones that do harm.
