Name: Neema
- Name Meaning: Graceful
Age: Adult / 6 Years
Gender: Female
Species: Panthera Leos (Lion)
Appearance: Unlike most lionesses, she stands almost 5 feet at the shoulder and weighs almost 320 pounds. Her large paws and sturdy stature create an imposing figure, especially when combined with her dark umber eyes. Much like her brother, she has a soft pale tawny pelt and almost white subpelt, also with a golden tail tuft. Neema is clearly muscular, said muscles visibly rippling underneath her pelt when she moves. Her nose resembles a “Pridelander one”, aside from a thin scar on the edge of it.
Personality: Neema is assertive in her manner, stating what is on her mind without qualms. She could be considered brutally honest, nine times out of ten. The only time she uses tact is when she considers things important, and is only affectionate to those that have earned it. When it comes to sparring, she uses her size and surroundings to full advantage – Having learned the hard way when wandering that it could be necessary, regardless of the intent. However, due to her brutal honesty, she often speaks out what is on her mind. Whether it is tactful or not. This has earned her both admiration and dislike.
History: Although she was born first, natural law decreed her brother in line for the throne. Even so, Neema was a bit on the haughty side for her position as Princess as a cub. To say she thought herself above getting dirty wouldn’t be an understatement, despite still wanting to play with her brother and adopted sister. Since they were close enough in age to be from the same litter, though, Neema took the out of place tawny-gray cub under her paw. Kuukeni knew all too well that she wasn’t of the same lineage as them, seeing as her pelt was more of a dusky tawny compared to their pale ones, but that was one thing Neema didn’t take advantage of.
Kuukeni was, after all, much like a sister to her. Besides, having two females was a perk to her. They convinced Gumu to attend hunting lessons with them as they grew, so by the time they reached six moons they were relatively even. By that time, it was also apparent that their builds differed greatly as well. However, despite Neema’s large size, she was just as graceful as her friend. Her love for water lilies was also passed on to her adopted sister it seemed, though she found it amusing as a cub to tuck them into their father’s thick mane.
Her brutal honesty, though, was also what caused them to finally leave when the land sloped into a downward spiral. They would all die if they didn’t leave, no matter how much they loved the land. It could no longer be home.
She suffered some dislike during their journey as rogues, but it was better than death to her. However, those closest to her stuck by her, knowing they’d had no choice. Only the two gossipy lionesses seemed to enjoy turning over and rehashing the complaints, the elder ones going along out of necessity. As time wore on, though, their numbers dwindled. Death and departure visited, leaving them with only four to their group.
Unfortunately then slashed down to three, a merciless accident rendering her sister to the stars. Although the remaining three sat by Kuukeni until moonhigh, it was clear from the blood and how hard she’d been kicked that she was with the Great Spirits. They had no choice but to move on, once more, before they joined her as well before their time.
Neema watched with sadness as her brother declined in health and attitude, she and Tii barely convincing him that he had to stay alive. His refusal to take a mate was understandable, though, no matter how much it pained them to see him still living in the past with memories. Even when he finally grew healthier again, he was adamant. It was one of the few times she checked her tongue. He did love her.
Yet … After two years of travel after Kuukeni’s apparent death, it seemed the stars were shining brightly that night. The lioness that still plagued Gumu’s dreams stepped out of the shadows, very much so alive. Her friend, sister, and long time companion. She was ecstatic about their reunion once the reality of the situation sunk in, all of them bubbling with questions. But, were just grateful that she’d returned to them.
When they joined another’s pride, it was not only for her companion’s sake, but for her soon-to-be niece as well. Although she did not get along well with Mradi, it was worth it. They finally had a home, and peace.
Skills: Neema’s bulky build makes her excellent for taking down large prey, as well as being a protectress to others. Her sheer strength made climbing easy for her as well, both in trees and on rockface. She prefers not to swim, but will if she must.
