Name: Selina Anima
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Hometown: Lilycove, Hoenn.
Appearance: Selina stands roughly 5’3, and weighs about 102 pounds. Having difficulty in tanning, she is usually on the pale side. Even so, her slender frame is rather muscular as well as flexible from traveling on foot the majority of the time. She allows her pale white-blonde tresses to hang loose around her hips, though they are occasionally pulled back into a ponytail or braid to keep them out of her face. The young woman’s eyes are a clear amber, and are usually brushed with beige eye shadow for formal occasions. However, she does have a very faint set of scars across her left hand. White scars dot across it, from jaw marks.
The young woman doesn’t really care for things that restrict her movement, but will work with whatever she has at hand. Her favorite set of garments usually consists of very faded blue jeans and an equally worn out white tank-top, simply saying “they’re comfortable” if someone comments. Vaguely scuffed brown hiking boots are tucked underneath the legs of her jeans, steel tipping the toes of them. Selina also wears simple stainless-steel studs in her earlobes, mainly to keep the two pierced spots open so she can exchange them for slightly nicer earrings when she wants to look a little better.
She isn’t really adverse to changing out her basic garb for a different appearance, though, and uses the recent technology advances to hold onto her extra possessions – Be it supplies, things for certain occasions, or something simply too big to carry around.
Personality: One might say that Selina is soft spoken, but overall opinions tend to vary. It is fairly easy to earn her trust and friendship, she always being one to try to look on the optimistic side of things. However, that also makes her prone to being taken advantage of. Even so, she is rather kind hearted; to both human and pokemon alike. If either is injured, or appears to be, she is one to try to help them.
She is friendly enough to people in general, but still isn’t one to let herself be shoved around or walked on. If the situation calls for it, Selina has been known to drop almost all pretenses of amiability, sometimes even striking out. The young woman prefers to avoid serious conflict, but will not hesitate to stand up for herself if she deems it necessary. In most cases, though, she does so for others before herself; be it for human or pokemon. Yet, she manages to handle tense situations well in most cases. Those she considers friends earn a protective eye, as well as actions should anything happen. If she has to take injury to protect them, so be it.
However, she does have more than her fair share of shy moments. Be either from discomfiture, awkwardness, or simply being put on the spot. Forms of courtship, romantic advances or simple flirting also tend to cause it, much to her embarrassment. Selina doesn’t care much for large crowds, and gladly does without attentions concentrated on her. When embarrassed, though; she simply becomes extremely quiet, and tries to attract as little attention to herself as possible.
Yet, despite her nearly perpetual calm, it really isn’t a good idea to provoke her. While her reaction is usually only iced words or actions, the result is much more when pushed beyond a certain point. Like anyone else, she can only handle so much – Be it anger, fear, or anything of the like. However, one of the few warning signs she is getting upset or angry is that her jaw clenches and hands curl into fists at the same time. When pushed far enough, though, she is not above shouting. At the same time, though, she often finds more fault with herself than others would initially think.
However, she is also very creative, applying it to both arts and life. Selina has no problem improvising if she must, be it ahead of time or on the spur of the moment. In battle, though, it is easily applied should a previous strategy fail. She is very strategic in battle, using her surroundings and ideas to every advantage. Yet, when a foe refuses or is unable to battle, she is more than willing to back down. Her pokemon companions are family to her, though. In every regard.
Biography: Born during the early spring, it could be said that she inherited the season’s growing life. From an early age it was clear she was a lover of art and pokemon; as she could often be seen trying to replicate Lilycove’s natural beauty onto paper, or trying to befriend any pokemon that crossed her path. When not cuddling with the family growlthie, she usually had pencils and paper in hand. Little of that changed as she grew. If anything, they grew with her.
Selina’s school years were spent studying much of the normal academics, though she spent extra time on pokemon related classes and creative arts. Even by the age of nine it was clear she had the makings for things relating her favorite subjects, having dedicated time to improving herself. She also spent much of her spare time at Lilycove’s shelters and daycare, earning a little bit of pocket money for running errands and such. Her favorite time at either was when she was actually interacting with the pokemon, though.
She happened across her first pokemon companion by accident, not long after her ninth birthday. The young poochyena pup had been injured; his paw broken and a gash near his ear, as well as on it. When she attempted to help it, he promptly bit her. Scared, nervous, unwilling to accept. Afraid to be hurt again, even. Despite that his natural attempt at self-preservation had drawn plenty of blood; she still didn’t want to leave him there. It took a good half hour or more to coax him forward, but he eventually settled down enough for her to carry him to the nearest Pokemon Center.
Koun, as she ended up calling him, remained melancholy several days after he’d been treated, though she couldn’t blame him for missing his pack. Unfortunately, though, he still wasn’t in the shape to up and leave. That, and she didn’t know where his pack had gone. Nor if they’d accept him again, now that he had human scent on him. However, by the time he’d finished healing; Koun had actually grown quite friendly to her and her family. Protective, even. Surprisingly enough, he rivaled Okami in how much he guarded them.
Selina received a Dusk Ball for Koun on her tenth birthday, her father deciding it was time that she capture him so that no one else managed to do it. Even afterwards, though, he spent much time outside of his storage sphere. To say that Koun went almost everywhere with her would be no exaggeration.
The next four years were spent doing the usual things, and simply working on developing their skills. For the time, Selina had wanted to wait on becoming a trainer, if only so she’d have more age and knowledge under her belt. That continued to carry out, when she started touring Hoenn with Koun. Most of the time; she attended both pokemon Contests and Tournaments, either drawing or photographing the first place winner and runner-ups. During her spare time, though, she dropped in on other pokemon schools for a few days at a time to a week, as well as did art for other people. The “professional” type work earned her plenty of pocket money to save for when she graduated when it came to quick-sketches, while about half of her work was free just for practice.
As it happened, though, she actually came across her second partner in an art-related way. Leta appeared not because Selina was having one of her rare battles, but because of the work she was doing. Visual poetry, it was called. The young ralts was apparently creatively inclined, and found the varying forms of art interesting. After following her around a few days, leaving small gifts tucked here and there in her pack or around her, Leta made move to introduce herself. By the end of the first day with her, the ralts agreed to travel with her as a companion for a month. If she liked how the things were, she’d join her team.
When the month was up, Leta agreed wholeheartedly to come as both her friend and partner. It turned out that she loved to read as well, so she helped with more than just art and battling. The trio spent the next year exploring the Orange Islands, before they covered all that could be seen without extremely powerful pokemon, and returned home for a month. When she arrived in time for her sixteenth birthday, her parents gave her an egg.
She stayed home for the rest of the year to finish the last part of her education while waiting for the egg to hatch – which only required about a month’s time – and then spent the rest of the year raising the young eevee. Eva quite soundly managed to capture the entire family’s heart, though. The fennec pokemon was clearly friendly, and treated Koun and Leta like siblings.
A month before she turned seventeen and after graduation, though, she received an anonymous invitation to go to Johto. Supplies were enclosed in the package, along with a first class ferry ticket. It simply said this: “Trainers, fresh and experienced alike, are becoming a dire need in times of change. Influencing the future is not something to make light of, so it is why I send this out. Please consider this request and opportunity, for every choice creates a rippling effect.
Sincerely,
The Phoenix.”
Strengths: Her will to set things on the right track is a driving force with her; be it a situation or someone having personal issues. She is also a fairly talented artist, be it with drawing or poetry. Selina knows a decent amount about healing, for both humans and pokemon. However, she is also trained in martial arts for self defense should she need it, as one cannot always rely on their pokemon companions.
Weaknesses: At the same time, though, her strength can be her weakness. If one has their mind set on it, a fine web can be woven around her. What they then chose to do, well … It could get very interesting.
