All right, as I've recently begun preparations to restart my Emerald, this subject has popped up into my mind. I love all of the Generation III starters, but I notice that some have a much larger claim to fame than others.
Which one do you prefer? Why? Do you have a favorite, or do you like them all equally?

Hrm, prolly Mudkip, because of the fame, cuteness, and it's pretty epic later. I usually go for the more 'useful' grass types, but I'll make an exception in this case.

I personally like them all for different reasons, though I have seen this distinction in many players. (Though, admittedly, a lot of people seem to dislike treecko for other reasons. Such as not being "cute". How can that little gecko not be cute? Especially when you put some personality into it~.) And, naturally, each one has their especially helpful spots when it comes to the game plotline. Be it specific gyms, or even afterwords at the Elite Four.
