Name: Tyson Collins
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Class: Pokemon Trainer/Dragon Tamer/Gym Leader
Appearance: Tyson looks every part the Dragon Tamer he has become. Standing at a touch under 6 feet tall, and with a lean, athletic build from years of constant physical exercise, he can come across as someone who, while not bulky, could go toe-to-toe with an experienced fighter...and win.
His dark skin is the result of both genetics and tanning, while his shoulder length black hair refuses to turn brighter no matter how often Tyson spends in the sun...not that he cares, actually preferring midnight-hued covering. His eyes, by contrast, are a deep, piercing blue, and several years as an experienced Dragon Tamer have given them a depth and intensity that can be rather unnerving to many, even if they often show respect and kindless almost all the time. Some people claim that, when angered, his eyes can flash with something resembling crackles of electricity, but it is just a rumour, probably a wild tale resulting from his status within the Dragon Tamer society.
Attire: Tyson's dress sense follows the traditional, almost 'medieval hero' style the Dragon Tamers seem to prefer. Heavy black boots adorn his feet, with light grey pants keeping his legs covered. His upper body is covered by a simple yellow button-up shirt, only mildly formal on its own.
His signature attire, as it is with all Tamers, is his cloak, Tyson's personal preferences making his predominantly black, with a royal blue inside layer that's only seen when his cloak is open. For the most part, Tyson keeps himself enshrouded within the cloaks folds, with the front closed off and the hood cowl up, hiding his face in shadow. When a challenger at his Gym arrives, he uses this habit to create a mysterious aura around himself, a way of reminding his challengers that he is strong and powerful before he shows his face to them.
Personality: To anyone outside the Dragon Tamers (as in anyone who takes his Gym challenge), Tyson tends to come off as rather mysterious and imposing, if kind and respectful. His habit of staying in the shadows, keeping his appearance hidden until the battle is about to begin, has a tendency to cause some mild intimidation, reminding challengers that he is a Dragon Tamer, and that there will always be a sense of awe and mystery around them.
Underneath this exterior, though, is a kind soul. He respects any and all challengers, both human and Pokemon alike, and will praise worthy opponents, even if they cannot overcome him. He's not against playing a few mind and word games with his opponents, though...it's all part of the battle process.
All-in-all, Tyson is aware of, and accepting, of his status as a Dragon Tamer, and the instant sense of awe and respect he gets when people first see him. But he never basks in the glory of his position, merely hoping he can provide Trainers with the challenge they crave.
History: Tyson was actually born away from the Dragon Tamers, in Fucisha City of the Kanto region. He lived a relatively normal childhood, aside from not seeing his parents much due to their work. He always had a companion in the Pokemon his parents gave him, though, a shiny Meowth called Topaz.
As Tyson grew up, and his Meowth evolved, he found work in the Safari Zone in his home city, where he eventually ended up as the head groundskeeper assigned to the Dragon Lagoon, where the few Dragon-type Pokemon in the park resided...mostly Dratinis. After an incident which involved several poachers, and a Dragon Tamer, most of those Dratini's were killed, and one more severely injured, one which Tyson took under his wing at the encouragement of the Tamer who helped stop the poachers.
The Dratini, Ladon, managed to recover from the incident, although with a nasty scar as a permanent reminder, as Tyson retired from the Safari Zone, inspired by the Tamer who saved him and Ladon. Now more than old enough to head out into the world on his own, Tyson took a trip to Blackthorn City in Johto, and devoted himself to becoming a Dragon Tamer, gaining entrance into their ranks at 20 years of age.
Over the next 7 years, Tyson has proven himself a worthy Dragon Tamer, completing his team of Pokemon and making something of a name for himself within the Tamer ranks, even if he remained anonymous to the outside world. Eventually, Tyson decided to start up a Gym much like the one in Blackthorn City...but while Blackthorn City's Gym was the final hurdle for Trainers looking to enter the Johto League Tournaments, Tyson's Gym ended up becoming something of a proving ground...a place where Trainers who had already showed potential in regional tournaments could come to test their skills against one of the most mysterious societies in the Pokemon world.
In the Gym's short life so far, Tyson has proved his capabilities as a Gym Leader. He has yet to record a loss, and while he may adapt his battling strategy between battles, no-one is entirely sure of his full team line-up.
Pokemon Team:
-Topaz (Persian, Female)
Known Moves: Return, Slash, Power Gem, Dark Pulse, Faint Attack, U-Turn, Agility
-Tanga (Luxray, Male)
Known Moves: Thunderbolt, Discharge, Charge Beam, Thunder Wave, Charge, Crunch, Strength, Toxic, Secret Power
-Ladon (Dragonair, Male)
Known Moves: Outrage, Dragon Rush, Hyper Beam, Ice Beam, Surf, Dragon Dance
-Darwing (Salamence, Male)
Known Moves: Dragon Claw, Crunch, Earthquake, Body Slam, Brick Break
-Ryuu (Charizard, Male)
Known Moves: Flamethrower, Overheat, Sky Attack, Sky Drop, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Claw, Focus Blast, SolarBeam
-Auda (Latias, Female)*
Known Moves: Psychic, Mist Ball, Dragon Pulse, Draco Meteor ExtremeSpeed, Water Pulse, Steel Wing, Agility
*The existance of Tyson's Latias is completely unknown to all but a select few Dragon Tamers, as he has yet to call on it in a Gym Battle
Strengths: As can be gathered from Tyson's line-up, his team is primarily composed of Dragon-type Pokemon. As such, his team has a bit of a reputation for their brutally devastating power. He has also trained them to be highly diverse in their offensive options, meaning many challengers can be caught off-guard when they try to play to his preferred type's traditional weaknesses. His entire team often develops a never-say-die attitude in a battle as well, fighting on even when exhaustion begins to take its toll
Individually, Tyson's Pokemon play their own little roles;
Topaz, Tyson's signature Pokemon, is known for her speed over her raw power, but as Tyson's oldest Pokemon, she is also his most experienced.
Tanga, as an Electric-type, suffers from few key weaknesses, and his secret Poison side of him, allowing him to use moves such as Toxic, tends to throw off Trainers fighting him.
Ladon, as a Dragonair by choice, has some of the agility-based advantages of his snake-like body that a Dragonite can't have. He may not have as much raw power as the rest of the team, but has been trained in higher defence and stamina to make up for it.
Darwing, to those who have faced Tyson in battle, is arguably his strongest Pokemon. With a diverse moveset, aggressive battle style, and raw power that could make even a Legendary pause to reconsider, Darwing is an imposing battler, and has been the undoing of most challengers thus far.
Ryuu, Tyson's Dragon-spirited Charizard, is at home in the skies. It's mastery of Sky Attack and Sky Drop moves means ground-based Pokemon have a really rough time trying to unsettle the proud and powerful Fire-type.
Auda, Tyson's final, unknown mystery Pokemon, has a key advantage in that it has never been faced in battle before, and as such, no challengers can possibly know he has a Latias in his possesion. In battle itself, it's speed in flight is unmatched, and it has well-developed Psychic talents that can unsettle many opponents.
Weaknesses: The offset to Tyson's raw offensive power in battle is that many of his Pokemon suffer from problems in defence. his power and versatility is offset by his team's difficulty in longer-lasting battles.
Individually, his Pokemon's weaknesses are as follows;
Topaz, despite her experience, does not have the raw power, either physical or special, that the rest of the team has on their side, and also lacks defence, requiring her to focus on evasion to outlast an opponent in battle.
Tanga's core weakness is his lack of versaility, which forces him to rely mostly on his Electric attacks, giving him serious trouble against any Ground-type Pokemon. Another core weakness if that a genetic defect in his eyes has stripped him of the x-ray vision his species is known for, and that his highly unique looks have made him a very well-known Pokemon in Tyson's line-up.
Ladon, as an unevolved Pokemon, suffers from the underdeveloped strength and stamina from that, and despite Tyson training him in defence and endurance, he still relies mostly on evasion to keep himself in fighting shape.
Darwing, despite being the most feared Pokemon in Tyson's team, has one brutally obvious weakness...his size makes him slow, and a very easy target to hit.
Ryuu, unlike Tyson's other Pokemon, has been known to go into fits of overconfidence in the past, taking unnecesarry risks and sometimes making stupid decisions in a bold attempt to prove how strong he is.
Auda, despite her Legendary status, is just as vulnerable defensively as most of Tyson's team, and often holds her true potential back, not really wanting to hurt her opposition.
Pokemon - Unique Features:
Topaz
-Has the colouration of a "shiny" Persian.
-Her eyes are green instead of the normal black or red.
-The gem on her forehead is gold instead of the usual red, and the source of her name.
-Due to a hatred, and possibly a phobia, of PokeBalls, she is never contained within one...although Tyson does keep a Luxury Ball on hand, just in case.
Tanga
-Has the base colouration of a "shiny" Luxray.
-The star at the end of his tail, along with the bands that adorn his forelegs, are a silver-grey colour as opposed to their usual orange-yellow.
-His eyes, instead of the yellow and red of normal, are a bright blue, similar to Tyson's own eyes, and a visual mark of his genetic defect obbing him of his x-ray vision.
-Is contained within an Ultra Ball.
Ladon
-Has a large scar stretching from his left cheek, twisting down his long body, from a knife wound received from a poacher when he was still a young Dratini.
-Is contained within a Dive Ball
Darwing
-Is contained within a Great Ball
Ryuu
-Is contained within a Fast Ball
Auda
-Is contained within a Cherish Ball
