Nickname (Pokemon), Gender:
Maura (Mightyena), Female.
Type:
Dark
Ability:
Intimidate / Quick Feet
Hidden Power: Psychic.
Techniques (Attacks):
Instinctive: Tackle, Howl, Sand Attack, Bite, Odor Sleuth. Dig.
Taught: Crunch, Scary Face, Take Down.
Human Taught: Shadow Ball, Mud Slap.
Inherited: Poison Fang, Ice Fang, Thunder Fang, Fire Fang.
Future: Thief, Sucker Punch, Double Team, Toxic, Secret Power.
Special Features: Maura is definitely smaller than most of her kind, growth being stunted from being taken from her parents as a very young pup. Her eyes are also different from the usual ruby red, instead being a startling green. At least, in her remaining one. Her left eye is blinded, a scar going straight up the middle of it.
Accessories: A leather collar is sturdily fastened around her throat, almost too tight as she’s finishing growing. But while it has its uses, it’s starting to make it difficult to breathe.
Nature/Personality:
Brave
Maura is usually the first to assert her authority when in company of humans, not about to be seen as an easy one – Having long desired the freedom others had told her about, before they themselves had been captured. But she’s also one of the few who would bite a human, for that matter. She knows there are usually consequences for doing it, but her disobedience and sturdy stance make it worth it. Still having some freedom, even in captivity.
But despite that she’ll take on a challenge head first, even if it’s bigger than her, she isn’t one to blindly rush into things – Ironic though it may be, since one eye is blinded. But she’s learned to use that blindness to her advantage, rather than disadvantage. Her hearing on that side is even more acute than her natural one, and she has spent many nights improving her focus on other senses.
It is in her blood to be loyal, but she reserves that loyalty only to pokemon. And given the chance to make a proper friend, she would do her utmost to defend them. Even if it cost Maura her life. Her main caution is not rooted from shyness, but from the concern a pokemon she might encounter could be ordered to capture her.
History: Maura’s early puphood was quiet, a time of sanctuary. She heard many tales of her grandparents, as well as the times of her great-grandparents when wild packs of all canines ran free. The most awe-inducing tale holding a solid place in her mind, her grandmother – the She Alpha of the entire pack – holding off humans from her mixed pack for several seasons. Leading them astray, giving false trails. And when it came down to it, using instinct and skill alone to defend her family. That tales was always ended with the reminder to never forget her pride as a wolf, that the beckoning call of the wild would forever be dear to them.
Even after she was taken from her parents, barely two moons old, those words still rang through her mind. Doing her utmost to live up to the past, to be a hope for the future, shaped her into what she became. And her human did little to instill a sense of trust in them, wanting the pup to battle in extreme conditions early on and chastening her when she failed. But while she became strong in battle, so did her will. Her first two years passed with the same speed as constant battles, until she started throwing them. Instead of using her own strategies, rather than the human’s, entirely ignoring them with hopes of being released. Her situation only grew worse.
The last time she was struck, was the first time she bit a person. Not a warning nip, either – A bite strong enough to tear meat from the bone. Maura turned tail and ran. Digging under the fence of the training grounds, vanishing into the night. She didn’t know where she was going, but simply away from humans. A moon in solitude passed, before she began toying with the idea of trying to free a few pokemon as she encountered a trainer’s. Beginning to formulate a plan of action, deciding to leave the degrading collar as a safety measure. To trick them into thinking someone still owned her.
Deception rang as hollow cowardice, but it would be the best way by far. Perhaps even granting her leeway to live up to the legends she had been told as a pup, to make a new pack. Maybe not of canines alone, but of any pokemon that would be willing to join.
