Episode one: Hope you can swim.
Kadic Academy, October 12, 2011. 6: 59 AM First day of tenth grade. William Dunbar and Odd Della Robbia’s dorm room.
“ I’ve become so numb, I can’t feel you there. Become so numb, so much more aware.” The dark blue haired teens cell phone started ringing; telling him it was time to get up. William groaned, and reached over, hoping to hit the snooze button, but instead he knocked it to the ground, causing a lot more nose than he intended to. William, and looked over to see if he had woken up his roommate, Odd, but the blonde and purple haired teen was still sleeping soundly. It would take a tornado to wake that kid up William thought, laughing to himself. At first, when Odd and William became roommates, the dark haired teen wasn’t sure how he would like it. He had always roomed by himself, be it at Kadic or his old school. Odd rolled over and fell off his twin bed and landed on the floor, but still, Odd just didn’t wake up.
William smiled, and shook his head, trying not to start laughing uncontrollably. Okay, so maybe having a roommate would be fun, especially if he got to see something this amusing every morning.
Getting up, he got dressed quickly in a pair of blue jeans and a dark red shirt with a maroon hoodie over it. He was tightening his converse just as Odd decided to wake up, and look at the clock that he had knocked off in his fall. He blinked slightly, like he wasn’t sure if the clock was real, or he was still sleeping.
“Well, are you up, or just falling down again?” William smirked, and helped his friend up. Odd looked a little dazed, then glanced at the clock once more, this time reading the time.
“DUDE! It’s ten till eight! I’m gonna be late!” Odd exclaimed, glaring at the dark blue haired teen. William smiled, shook his head and corrected him, “No, you won’t. Sorry Odd. I have it set an hour early. I never changed it back after daylight savings time.” William shrugged apologetically. Odd laughed, and shook his head. “Dude, you had me freaking out so much! At least I woke up in time. I knew rooming with you would be a good idea. Hey, where’s Kiwi?” Odd said suddenly, looking around for his dog that half the time looked like a rat.
“Hmm, good question. Maybe Mars came to reclaim their alien?” William joked, getting a glare from the slightly shorter teen.
“William, I’m not kidding! What if he got out?!? If Principle Delmas finds out about him, I’m as good as expelled!” Odd exclaimed. William smiled.
“Well, when you put it that way…” He drawled out, grinning, “Of course I’ll help! Can’t have one of my best friends expelled, can I?” William asked, already looked around the dorm room for the small and furry creature. Chances are, he was hiding in the mess that Odd called his side of the room. While brightly colored, Odd’s side wasn’t the neatest place ever. William made a note to himself to have Jeremie and Aleita keep Odd away for a little while this afternoon while William cleaned. Though he may not look it, William really hated things to be dirty.
“Here Kiwi!” Odd whistled. William decided to look on his side of the room, only to slip on a skateboard that shouldn’t have been there, and fall backwards.
“Ouch.” He groaned. Odd started laughing at him and William sat up knocking Odd down.
The two both heard a snicker, and turned to see Jeremie Belpois standing in the doorway, already dressed in a pair of blue jeans and a blue, yellow and white button down T-shirt, laughing at his two friends. William grinned, and stood up, dusting off his jeans.
“Hurry up, Odd. You do want breakfast, don’t you?” Jeremie snickered. At the mention of food, Odd redoubled his efforts to find his missing canine.

10 minutes and five incidents later, including finding the dog, and locking him in the bathroom, the three boys walked down to the cafeteria. Rain was pouring outside, and Odd was going on and on about these plans for ‘extreme river surfing.’ William and Jeremie listened without saying anything, but Jeremie shot William a look. This can’t be good, William thought. It Odd does try and surf, he’ll more than likely get himself killed.
“Hey, guys!” A voice called, and Aleita Stones ran up to the trio, grinning. The pink haired girl was wearing a light blue skirt, and a hot pink hoodie with purple leggings and boots.
“Hey, Aleita!” Jeremie greeting her, smiling at her. Odd and William exchanged glances. William smiled at the pink haired girl. “Hi, Aleita.”
“Hi! OH GOD! LOOK AT SISSI!” Odd suddenly exclaimed. The little group turned, and saw Sissi Delmas walking down the hallway, wearing a hot pink sweater and tight skinny jeans. That wasn’t the problem though. She was blonde. Sissi’s hair used to be almost as dark as William’s is. Now, it was around the color of Jeremie.
Jeremie chuckled, and shook his head. “Wow, I can’t believe she did that.” Aleita and William nodded in agreement. Sissi shot them a look, and walked off, flipping her newly blonde hair over her shoulder. “You’d think, that after helping us on Lyoko, she’d be nicer, more friendly, but I guess not.” Odd said darkly, so unlike his usual demeanor. Shaking his head, he walked into the cafeteria, looking mildly embarrassed at the looks of shock from William and the others. It wasn’t what Odd had said was all that mean, he was usually the one fawning over Sissi, and now, to say that?
Maybe Odd was finally getting over his Sissi obsession, just like William had accepted he would never be with Yumi.
“And, to think there was a time when I thought Sissi was a real babe.” Odd said with a sigh, and the group laughed as they walked through the line, and getting food. This morning was pancakes, and Odd got a whole giant stack.
“Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. I told my new roommate, Rini McAllen, that she could sit with us, She’s new, just transferred in from Scotland. She’s in your grade, William. I guess that exchange programs that Yumi and Ulrich went on went both ways, huh? You guys don’t mind do you? ” Aleita asked as Odd decided to try and eat a giant bite of the pancakes, syrup dribbling out of his mouth.
“I don’t. It’ll be nice to have a new friend. What do you think, William?” Jeremie asked. William shrugged.
“I don’t care. Like you said, Jeremie, it’ll be nice to have another friend. Maybe Odd will get a girl to actually date him now?” William said, shooting his friend a smile to let him know the teasing was all in good fun.
“Ohh, yeah! That would be awesome!” Odd crowed.
“Aleita?” A soft voice asked, and the pink haired girl smiled, and turned around in her seat. A girl with long light blonde hair that hung down to her lower back, and bright green eyes was standing there, looking a little nervous.
“Rini! I’m glad you found your way down. I kinda feel bad for leaving you on your own.” Aleita sad, smiling ruefully, pulling out the chair that was in between her and William. “Here, you can sit next to William and me.” Aleita shot William a look. Rini laughed softly, and sat down, giving William a small smile. “Hello.” She greeted, a defiant Scottish accent in her words, but not so bad and difficult that William couldn’t understand her.
William grinned back. “Hi, Rini. I’m William Dunbar. It’s gonna be cool to have you go to school here. I was the new kid a few years back, so I know that you’re probably a little nervous. I know I was. At least you got Aleita as a roommate, and not someone mean.” He summed up.
Rini laughed. Jeremie smiled at her. “Hi, Rini. I’m Jeremie Belpois. It’s nice to meet you.” He smiled in welcome. Rini was about to answer when Odd smiled at her and said, “Hi, Rini. I’m Odd, but you can just call me your future boyfriend.”
Aleita groaned and Jeremie facepalmed.
“William, I think Odd’s starting to act like you did around Yumi.” The pink haired girl said, sighing. William chuckled, slightly embarrassed.
Rini laughed. “Well, hello Odd. You are awfully cute, so who knows? You might just be my future boyfriend.” She said, grinning. Odd smiled in victory, and just started to say something when the bell for first period rang. William, Aleita, and Jeremie all stared in shock at Odd. Of course, this was expected, but still, to the new girl?
‘Was this how I acted in front of Yumi? Boy, do I hope not!’ William thought as they all got up and walked into the busy hallway. Students were rushing everywhere, Sissi and her friends telling people to keep out of their way. God, same old Sissi. Would she ever change? Sissi shot William a flirty look, and William groaned.
“Hey, William.” She called waving. He waved back, only to be polite. Was HE her new crush?
William turned to Rini, suddenly a little nervous. Okay, what was up? He was William Dunbar! He didn’t get nervous! He was the kid who had gotten expelled for posting love letters everywhere, and the one who flirted with Yumi constantly! But, this was different. He took a deep breath and smiled at her.
“Hey, Rini, what do you have first period?” William asked, sorta hopeful that it was algebra like him. Rini checked her schedule, and smiled at him. “Algebra.” She answered. William grinned, and he saw Aleita, Odd and Jeremie all exchange grins. William stuck his tongue out at his friends, who just rolled their eyes, and Rini laughed lightly.
“Sweet! So do I! You can sit by me in there, you know, if you wanna.” William amended. Rini’s bright green eyes lit up, and she nodded.
“Oh, thank you! I was worried sick about not knowing anyone and sitting alone.” She said softly.
William felt his phone vibrate, and pulled it out, glancing at it.
From: ODD
Well, so you like the new girl also? This means war, Dunbar.
William looked up and saw the blonde and purple haired boy grinning at him. William rolled his eyes, but sent back: Then, let the games begin.
Odd got the message and smirked at William, showing it to both Jeremie and Aleita alike. The bell rang, and everyone noticed that the hallway was almost empty.
Waving goodbye, William grinned, and together with Rini walked to the classroom. The green eyed girl was quiet, he soon learned. She was a little shorter than he was, around five four. William over the summer had reached five nine. He was now taller than Odd, and was pretty sure he would be taller than Jeremie soon.
When they reached the classroom, William held the door open for Rini. She blushed a little and thanked him. Pleased with himself, he followed her, and took his seat in the back of the class. She sat down next to the window. Rini pulled out a notebook, and started preparing for class. William pulled out last night’s homework, and started to finish what he didn’t get. His cell vibrated, and he carefully checked it.
Sender: UNKNOWN
Hope you can and Rini can swim.
William frowned at his phone, a little unnerved. What did that mean? Why would he have to swim? This was a classroom, not the school pool. William shook his head, and tried to put the message out of his mind. Why was Rini’s name in it? No one here, except for him and his friends knew her name, and why would they be saying they hoped she could swim? William shook his head, and turned back to the front of the class, dropping his phone back into his pocket.
“Today class, we are going to-“ The teacher was cut off by the sprinkler system going off suddenly and spraying everyone. William was shocked, and then could have sworn he saw a black mist hovering over the ceiling, and then vanish. This was really freaky. First he got that text, and now the
“What on Earth? Well, class dismissed this I figure out what is going on!” The teacher shouted, and the students cheered. Rini looked confused as her and William walked out of the classroom.
“So, now that we don’t have class, wanna go on a tour?” William offered. Rini nodded.
“That sounds fun. I wonder what caused the sprinkler system to go off?” She wondered. William shrugged. He had an idea, but not one he could tell her.
His cell started to vibrate again and he looked down at it.
Sender: Jeremie.
William! Get to the Factory right now! I don’t know what’s happening, but the computer lab is flooding as I write! Hurry!
William paled as he read the message.
“Umm, I’m really sorry Rini, but I have to go do this thing. Maybe some other time?” He said, hating himself as he saw the bright light that was in Rini’s eyes vanish. The, he remembered the text. Hope you and Rini can swim. If this was X.A.N.A, then, was Rini in danger? He glanced at the green-eyed girl, and found himself worried about her. Why do I care? He asked himself. Because, he answered his own question, She’s really nice, and if she got hurt because of him…well, X.A.N.A he would feel terrible.
“Hey, why don’t you come? I mean, if you want too?” He offered. Rini nodded. He could deal with the rest of the Lyoko warriors mad at him, if Rini and him were safe.
“I want too!” She said happily. She smiled at him, and William found that he was really crushing on her. This was different than how he felt about Yumi, or that girl at his old school. It was funny, he couldn’t even remember her name.
William found himself smiling.
“Okay, then we can just put our book bags in here.” He said, walking over to the door that led to the room with all the pool supplies. It came in handy for storing supplies in here and hiding from teachers’ whenever Odd pulled a stupid prank. Shaking his head, he walked down the hallway Rini at his side. He found the door he was looking for, and picked the lock with a paper clip. “Thank you, juvenile delinquent from my last school.” He muttered. Rini laughed, and he flashed a smirk. Maybe he did have a chance.
He walked in, Rini behind him. He flipped on the light, and started to find an empty shelf when the door slammed behind Rini, knocking her to her knees. “Ouch.” She said, standing up.
“That kinda hurt.” William helped her up, and tried to open it. Nothing. William narrowed his eyes, looking around. He walked with quick strides to the door that led to the poolroom itself, and tried to tug it open. Oh it was unlocked, but it wasn’t budging. William looked around. The room was about fifthteen feet tall and about seven wide. Heavy concrete shelves lined the walls, doling gallons of pool chemicals. He looked up, and saw that the vents were too small to be of any use. Crap. He sighed, and ran a hand threw his messy hair, and try to look like he knew what was going on, so Rini wouldn’t be scared.
“What’s going on?” Rini asked. William started to answer when he heard a gushing sound. He froze, but slowly turned looked see that the air vents were gushing out water. Rini looked terrified, and held onto William. William blushed, but tried to comfort her. Rini’s big green eyes were scared and she looked like she was in her own personal nightmare. This wasn’t good, this wasn’t good, William’s mind screamed at him. He took a deep breath and tried to think though the dread that was slowly filling his mind. H returned to Rini, putting an arm around her shoulders. She cringed into him. Well, at least Jeremie has the Return to the past program, so Rini won’t remember any of this, William thought. That was good. Or, was it?
“Scared of water?” William asked quietly. Rini nodded quickly. The water was at their ankles and William was alarmed to see how fast it was filling up. The doors were watertight, so no chemicals could get out, so no draining there. The onyx-eyed boy was staying calm, trying to appear brave, at least for Rini’s sakes. His mind was screaming at him to get out of there, but he couldn’t
“I’m terrified. I can’t swim at all. I’ve almost drowned before.” Rini shivered. William tried to comfort her, but really didn’t know what he was doing. Rini smiled at him. “You know, you’re really cute and really sweet. If we get out of here, you maybe wanna hang out sometime?” She asked. William smiled.
“That’s a yes.” He grinned, but then remembered the problem at hand. “Why don’t we sit on the shelf?” He offered. Rini nodded, and he climbed up, and then helped her up.
Factory, Super computer room. October 12, 2011. 10: 27 AM.
At the factory, Jeremie had virtualized everyone. Now, all that left was William. Where was he? Jeremie looked around, trying to see if the dark blue haired boy had arrived. Nothing. His cell phone starting ringing and he pulled it out to see a text from the boy in question himself.
Sender: William
Jeremie! Rini and I are trapped in the pool supply room. Doors are locked and water filling in quick. Help! We’re already sitting on the first shelf, and the waters coming in quick. I don’t know how long we’ll be able to be in here. An hour, maybe two if we’re really lucky.
Jeremie paled, and realized that was why William wasn’t here. X.A.N.A had to be behind this, But, why targeting William? Was the computer program trying to get the least experienced Lyoko Warrior on its side again? He sincerely hoped not. He had no real idea of how terrible it had been for William, but he had remembered the look of pure horror and guilt when he was brought back to Earth and informed of what happened.
He quickly typed in on his I-phone a message.
Well, just don’t drown. I’ll tell the others to hurry up. Be careful. We don’t have time to train another Lyoko Warrior. Haha.
He added the last part to try and be funny. “Guys, William’s in trouble. He and Rini are trapped in the pool supply room, and waters coming in fast. You guys need to hurry.” He said over the headset that let the Lyoko Warriors hear him, just like he was watching on the monitor. That’s when he heard a sizzling sound. Looking down, he was terrified to see that water was up to his ankles. Sparks were flying, so Jeremie put his feet in his chair.
“Waters also in the Computer room. Hurry.” He said urgently, praying that they could stop this in time.
On Lyoko. October 12, 2011. 10:45 Am.
Aleita was worried. Rini and William were in very real danger. He roommate and one of her best friends could, would, die if her and Odd didn’t find the tower and deactivate it. X.A.N.A was behind this that was already for sure. The thirty minutes or so they had been in Lyoko they had been attacked by every monster on Lyoko at least once.
“Come on.” She urged Odd, and the two ran off in the direction of the glowing red light.
A hoard of Bloxs came their way, but Odd took them out with his laser arrow before anything really could happen.
“Come on, we’re almost there-” Odd was cut off by an energy blast that came from a unknown source. Wincing, he stood up. He rubbed his chest, and quickly took a defensive position in front of Aleita. Nothing else happened.
“Okay, what on Earth?” Aleita said, looking around for the monster that did this. A cold laugh, and another blast of energy, this time that Odd and Aleita dodged.
“What on Earth? I think you mean, what on Lyoko.” A girl’s voice sneered, stepping out from behind the trees that littered the forest sector.
“Who are-?” Aleita managed to ask before the girl waved her hand and another blast of purple energy almost hit the two Lyoko Warriors. They were five feet from the tower
“Who am I? Well, why don’t you ask Rini about that, hmm? She knows me very well. Even if she would like to forget me.” She taunted, easily dodging a pink energy blast from Aleita.
Odd and Aleita both looked at each other worried.
“So, you and Rini are on the same team?” Odd tried. The girl laughed. Shaking her head, she started backing up, which Aleita guessed what for a retreat. Aleita was secretly sneaking around and dived into the tower. Floating up to the second floor, she placed her hand on the wall, and it asked for a code.
Aleita, she typed in.
CODE?
Lyoko, She typed in, and all the panels around her fell. She jumped out of the tower, and landed by Odd. The return to the past would be any second now…
“The same team? Oh no. Not even close. We were for a little while, I’ll grant but once I realized that my full potential lies else where, I ditched her and those other goody goody brats... We’ve been fighting ever since. So, for know, goodbye Lyoko Brats and do give my best regards to Rini.” The girl started to run off, when Odd yelled, “Wait! What’s your name?” The girl paused, and turned, just as the white light start filling Lyoko, “You may call me Allegra.” Aleita wanted to say something, but the white light filled everything, her vision going dark.
Computer lab, Kadic Academy, before X.A.N.A attacks. October 12, 2011.
Aleita saw that she was in Computers, Jeremie beside her. Just like it should be, she thought, The Return trip worked. But, still something bugged her. How did that girl know Rini? The thought just wouldn’t go away, She would have to learn more about her new roommate…
