It was raining on the two figures as they stood on the cliff side of Mount Silver, lightening flashes giving barely enough light to identify the more well-known of the figures, Koga of the Johto elite four.
“Seems funny how it ends outside of your jurisdiction, Koga!” the other figure laughed. “All this time of trusting me, believing in human nature and it took you this long to find all the signs that pointed to me!”
“I'll bring you to justice! You and the rest of your organization!” Koga roared, flinging a poisoned knife at his opponent, who sidestepped it.
“Justice, huh?” the other man said, pulling out a polished silver pistol, the gloved hand would leave no fingerprints. “I always pictured justice as a bit more...gray,” he drawled, chuckling at a joke on he knew.
“You wouldn't know justice if it came up bit you in the ass,” Koga rumbled, stance relaxing as he scanned for an exit, any way to escape being shot. “Or gratitude.”
“Now, Koga, don't say things like that,” the other man said, sounding genuinely hurt. “I am grateful for you saving my life, nursing me back to health when you found me sick and dying. It's why I'm killing you, rather than anyone else. I'll do it quick and painlessly.”
“The boy I cared for like a son wouldn't kill anyone,” Koga said, wondering briefly if the boy really was human.
“Only when he has to,” the boy whispered. “Oh Arceus,” he sobbed, falling to his knees, the gun clattering next to him.
Koga ran and caught him, keeping him from letting himself fall face-down in the shallow water. “Easy there. We can get you help, keep anybody who'd come after you from finding you.”
“I don't want to kill you,” the boy muttered into the chest of the older man.
“You don't have to.”
“Actually, I do,” the boy muttered, firing the gun into his own leg. “Ah! Dammit!”
“What was that for?!” Koga exclaimed.
“An alibi,” the boy said, hazel eyes meeting the older man's. “Sandshrew!”
The ground beneath them crumbled off the cliffside, Koga's noble nature trying to save them both, but the athletic boy threw the man beneath him, firing a shot into his chest, closing his eyes to keep from seeing the light in the eyes of the man he had traveled with from extinguishing.
----
When the Pokemon Rangers finally found Koga's dead body, the gun which had killed him and injured his companion was nowhere to be found, and the unconscious boy, his trainer ID confirming him as Alexander Gray, was taken to the hospital.
