Ryu is about six feet tall weighing in at 156 pounds. He has auburn hair with mahogany eyes. He is Caucasian with a light tan to his skin. Ryu is always wearing his orange and white cap with a poke-ball in the middle. His jacket is blue with a tall collar that comes up to his chin. When it’s a nice day out he will be in jeans that seem worn down. If it is hot out Ryu keeps a pair of shorts in his backpack just in case. He’s been around the training block and keeps a few extra pokeballs around just in case something needing training comes along.
Ryu has some medical supplies for him and his pokemon in the bag as well as a sleeping bag on top of his pack. By keeping his pokedex around he’s never too far from knowing what pokemon he’s up against. There is a collapsible bike in his bag, but he wants to give that up for flying. With his dragons and ghosts it is obvious that he stands with them not use them.
Personality:
Ryu is always looking for the next stronger trainer. With any luck he will find someone who will be a recurring challenge with some wins and some loses. When things don’t go his way he gets even tougher to read. He is known to have a great poker-face in a battle. When he has things going great there is a smile on his face. His dragons sense this and fight harder to keep their best friend happy. The ghosts read his anger and become more frightening with each passing blow. When he’s sad his pokemon always know. Most of the time they let themselves out to try and cheer him up. The last time that happened was when he lost his best friend to a brutal battle. The pokemon on the opposing side lost control of his thunder and stopped the friend’s heart ending it there. Ryu has one pokemon that came with him from his friend’s team: A dratini that refuses to evolve. She doesn’t evolve because her trainer asked her never to change.
Biography:
Ryu was born in Blackthorne so naturally he was raised as a dragon trainer. The gym leader there was a powerful dragon trainer, and an inspiration for Ryu’s training. He saw her battles through the windows of the gym and it was all inspiring. The dragons seemed to dance at her command and they showed their skill in executing attacks. When the day came for him to start training pokemon he walked out into the wild grass looking for his first catch. Claire stopped him and offered to help him. While she was showing him the ropes he noticed a small gible in a cave. Ryu made his way over but Claire stopped him before he could make it across. She said that even dragon-types can be tough to train. He gave her a look that apparently sparked something in her. She handed him a single pokeball and pointed to the gible. ‘Catch it or don’t try training around here.’ Ryu took off following the gible’s trail. The evidence of a dragon’s den was obvious, but his determination deterred the fear.
The gible was in its nest sleeping soundly and calmly. Ryu made the mistake of stepping on loose rocks. They fell alerting the pokemon to his presence. The gible looked at him and started to growl. It was not happy at all that Ryu was there. With what seemed to be instinct Ryu threw the pokeball towards the pokemon. It watched as the ball missed and stared at Ryu. The look on Ryu’s face was what made the gible respect him. It walked up to the pokeball and tapped the button in the center. Ryu was shocked, had that really happened? He picked up the pokeball thinking it was just a fluke. Thoughts passed through Ryu’s head and he came to a name: Vincent.
“Vincent Come on out!” Ryu threw the ball in the air and sure enough the Gible came out. “Gib gib!!” It was real. He looked at Gible and took him back outside. Claire was standing there with a look on her face of approval. ‘You are now a dragon trainer. Take care of him. Why are you still here? He needs you to get going!’ Ryu and Vincent were inseparable from that point forward.
He’s taken his first few steps into the world of dragon training. When his friend fought an electric trainer the foe’s jolteon got out of hand. The thunder strike ended up striking him instead of the dratini. His friend passed on that night from heart failure. Before he left he asked dratini to never change and keep traveling with Ryu. Ryu held his hand as he passed on and dratini was grim as well as Vincent. Ryu fell to the ground and dratini wrapped herself around him as Vincent sat in his lap rubbing against his chest. Ryu couldn’t do anything but cry and hold his friends close. He’s now thinking about getting out and taking on the world. Ryu starts his journey at the cave entrance of Blackthorne.
Strengths:
Ryu forms bonds quickly and provides the challenge of making his opponent work harder to defeat him. His dragons protect him, but he also binds with ghosts. He is now looking at raising both.
Weaknesses:
Ryu fears the anniversary of his friend’s death and is his weakest point. His pokemon do their best on that day, but they can only do so much. Ryu is off of his game on that day.
