Randomly caught a shiny machoke in Victory Road last night. That's my second shiny I've gotten that wasn't from GTS. My first was a shiny mareep from breeding.

Congrats on that, 2gamers. Shines are definitely hard to come by, I'll give you that.

In my experience, shinies appear when you're not looking for them .

Usually so. And in my experience with Gen II games, when you're plum out of pokeballs.

So with that shiny machoke and a few mathematical formulas, I found my secret ID number. With this, I was able to fool around with the RNG and bred a shiny wooper AND a shiny ponyta (no cheating devices required, in case you were wondering). Conclusion: I am able to breed shiny pokemon AT WILL!

Wow! How did you do that? And in what game/generation? *Would be thrilled to hear this.* ^_^

I did it in the Pearl version. Turns out that the Random Number Generator (RNG) used in the games is NOT random. By knowing your SID, you can predict the pattern being used at any given time. Strangely, it requires a certain number of taps on the Happiness and Coin Flip apps on the Poketch. The downside: to find your SID, you'll need to catch a wild shiny (not chained). In other words, this is only really useful if you already caught a shiny randomly . Here's more info at these links: Explanation: www.smogon.com/ingame/rng/dpp_rng_introTechnique: www.smogon.com/ingame/rng/dpp_rng_part1UPDATE: Add Shiny Totodile and Shiny Charmander to the list . I'm hoping to trade that charmander for a Gamestop Celebi. I just need to find someone who will do that trade...
