I know. When Light took over as L, everyone that even looked at him wrong began dropping like flies.

Okay, I for some reason thought there was only 34 episodes. Guess I was wrong. But I'm watching episode 31 right now, and wow~. Mikami is pretty attractive for an anime character, hehe. But more importantly, this episode is epic. Mikami (the dark haired Kira, also the fourth, I believe) is just a bonus. I'd like to see more about him.

I finished it! Wow, what an anime. I can see myself rewatching this once the internet is back. I might try the Dub for the second time around. Amazing how everyone fell to pieces during the last episode. But then ... No one could go six years, pretending to be three different people, and not crack just a little. That crack just turned into a fissure over the last episode. But it was a very satisfying ending, considering all in all. Its just a shame so many characters that we grew attached to, died. Of course, considering the title ... It is to be expected.
But that is interesting. Perhaps they'll make an anime adaptation of it. ^_^

They'd better, is so amazing, it's just... wow. They delve deep into the psyche of one of the kids at Wammy's House, Beyond Birthday, who is obsessed with beating L and surpassing him instead of just succeeding him. He kills three people and then fakes his identity as a detective hired to investigate the case to give hints to the FBI agent under L's watch so that she can "solve the case". But at the fourth and final murder, BB, undercover as the detective, sets himself on fire to become the fourth and final victim, camouflaging himself, the murderer, as one of the victims to create and unsolvable case that even L could not figure out. That way, he'd have beaten L and would have surpassed him although he'd be dead xD But wow, I was astounded with the quality and flow of the story. It was... amazing to say the least. If you have a Chapters or a Barnes n Nobles near you, you can find it. It's a definite favourite for me

I actually registered here just to post in this thread, but after the first volume of the manga I can't understand at all why people love this. L is a pretty fail detective ("THE CRIMES ARE OCCURING IN JAPAN BUT THE KILLER MIGHT BE IN AMERICA"). I'm not sure if I'll bother continuing the series.
I suggest reading the Umineko no Naku Koro ni visual novels for a better mystery, albeit that story is near perfect and is pretty difficult to top.

No, actually, the way L threads clues together to solve crimes is pretty interesting. The novel, too, the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases, wow, that one was the most amazing crime novel I've ever read. The way the clues are arranged, the mentality of a deranged killer with the obsession of surpassing L, it's just so well done, I can't tear my eyes away from it! " As for Umineko... Listen, I watched Higurashi no Naku and Kai, and I am too freaked out to follow with whatever else. Besides, it got confusing with all the repeats and stuff and I only understood once I finished Kai @_@
