(*huggles* I don’t mind. I like how there are no posting limits like ZRPG. Dang, I do like haggles!)
Chris was amazed the being he up until now thought was mythical still lingered on the beach despite her apparent unease. He managed to tear his gaze from the mermaid to look himself over again, and aside from his lost sandals, he was unhurt. Chris slowly and shakily rose up, “I’m not hurt, just shook up. T…thank you for what you did.”
When he reached full height he felt some aches but probably nothing life threatening. He paced his hands on his knees and sighed. The boat and its motors he inherited from his father. The only things he paid for himself was the fishing equipment, the cooler, and the drinks inside. He mentally kicked himself for the loss of all of these things. He sniffed smelling oil. Great, to top it all off he started some pollution.

The young woman nodded after a moment, slowly adjusting to the human's presence. A bit of wariness remaining about the sandy haired mermaid though, nearly two decade's worth of warnings about humans not about to vanish in the space of half an hour. It would've been stupid if they had. Ria resisting the urge to slide back into the ocean as the human stood, his full height a good bit taller than her current position. But relaxing a bit more when he suddenly rested in a crouched position, the events having gotten to him.
"... You're welcome," the mermaid whispered after a moment, though well aware of the rancid scent that clung to their garments. Something that would make it hard to breathe in that area as whole. Though at the moment, the loose ends hung about in front of her face. Only then making her true concerns known. "... You ... won't tell, will you?"

Chris’ eyes met hers again. He wanted to tell someone so bad about this wonderful thing that has happened to him! But seeing the fear in the mermaid's eyes made it so he couldn’t find it in his heart to say yes.
“No, no I won’t. Your secret is safe with me.”

Relief visibly washed over the blonde mermaid like a wave, relaxing a little more. Not completely trusting, of course, but much more at ease. "... Thank you," she murmured after a moment, bowing her head in his direction. Aware of the cool waters washing over her waist and tail with each lapping wave, but not nearly as tempted to vanish into them.

Chris sat on the sand wondering why the mermaid stuck around on the beach with him. At least she didn't look as if sudden movements would spook her.
"So, what are you going to do now?" He said cautiously afraid to scare the mermaid that appeared to be about his age. Since was staying he saw no need to leave. To say he was curious was an understatement. He wondered if the living myth felt similar.

She shook her head, uncertain. "I don't know, to be truthful," Ria said softly, before slowly pulling her lower tail closer to the rest of her body. Resembling a human sitting in the sand from her pose, but clearly anything but. Resting her hands in her lap, per se, as the glance back up at him. "This was my first time to the surface," she added after a moment, though perhaps only confusing the fisherman more so.

The fisherman was surprised when the mermaid took a more causal posture as well, probably the closest she can get to sitting. They sat face to face his legs crossed and hands clasped in front of him. He was intrigued that the mermaid commented on never being on land before, not a big shock considering her lack of legs.
"Well this is my first time seeing a mermaid!" He said with a smile, "What's your name? Mine's Chris."

A small smile curved her lips at his words, mirroring the human's own expression. His query only making him seem friendly, rather than the contrast of what she'd been told. "I would imagine so," she agreed, chuckling softly. "My name is Ria," the blonde mermaid added after a moment, though tilting her head slightly at his hat now that it was drying out. She could see it wasn't natural on humans, so she was curious as to why they would want something obstructing their sight. "... Why do you wear that?"

Chris mulled the softspoken mermaid's name over in his mind. Ria... that was certainly one he'd never heard of before.
"Why do I wear what? My hat?" He guess because she was looking at it. He took it off his head to wring it to get any moisture the sun hadn't dried yet.
"Well, I wear it because It helps to keep the sun out of my eyes on days like this when there are no clouds. Asides from that, I think it looks cool." He replied to her question.
Since she asked such a question, Chris imagined he'd try one as well. He set eyes on her tail again, "Your tail isn't what I imagined. It looks like a dolphin's without the fluke. Does it... feel like one?"
He hoped the question wasn't too personal. Ria did have a pole of some sorts on her back for some reason, and it looked like it could be used as a weapon. Besides, he'd only just met her. But too late to take back the question now.

She nodded after a moment, considering his words. Since humans were exposed to the sun, she supposed it was only natural. To her, just from being on the surface for such a short amount of time, it was already warm. "I suppose it would be useful," Ria allowed, though pausing at this question of her tail.
The small, silvery blue scales could barely be differentiated from one another to look at them. Light rippled across them with the next wave that hit the shore, though she would admit at first glance it did indeed look like it'd be similar to a dolphin's feel. And it was close, at least. "A bit, I suppose. I've heard our tails resemble something closer to a snake, though. I haven't personally seen or felt one, so ... I am not sure if it is true," Ria said after a moment, shrugging one shoulder. Realizing he was asking to touch it, though, she nodded to him. "You may."
