"..." Jace stared openmouthed as Shiva's attack landed upon the other draconian Pokemon, amazed at the hit. "Wow..."
"Shiva, think fast! He's coming for more!" Jace warned, and she turned around to face Ladon--and froze at the anger in his eyes. She hadn't really expected to land her quick attack upon the other dragonair, and now that she had, he was obviously ready to retaliate. She gave him her toughest look after her short bout of shock, ready to dance out of the way--but it seemed that she wasn't quite fast enough.
Jace gasped at he watched Ladon come at Shiva, eyes blazing, and cried out--but no words came, just a strangled yell as Ladon hit Shiva hard with the Outrage attack. She yelped and screeched as she caught the entire hit against her body, tumbling end over end as she fell to the ground. She slid against the marble-like stone, still covered in water from Ladon's earlier attack, and stayed unmoving. Jace put his hand up to his mouth, intimidated into shock for a brief second as he grimly pulled out her Poke Ball.
"Good job, girl, you did your finest," he said, holding out the ball. "Return, Shiva."
After a moment, he thought hard about what Pokemon to send out next. He caught Tyson's gaze for an instant and let his eyes say all he wanted--he wasn't going to give up that easily.
"All right! Go, Gabriel!"
A kirlia shot forth in a ray of light, seeking Ladon's gaze and holding it before assuming a defensive stance.
"Lucky Chant!" Jace shouted, and Gabriel did a jerky sort of dance, gibbering to himself.
"Confusion!"
Gabriel's eyes glowed under his cap as he prepared the attack--still looking Ladon in the eyes as he did so...

Tyson actually winced as Ladon's Outrage attack slammed home...that move always was vicious, and he only tended to ask Ladon to use it as a last-resort measure, given the side-effects, which Tyson knew could not be too far away.
But in the end, Shiva fell to Ladon's rage...and did not get back up. Tyson looked to Jace as Shiva was recalled, impressed to find that, beneath the shock of losing his first Pokemon, determination still blazed in his eyes. "I'm impressed, Jace," she said with complete sincerity, showing that it was not just Jace, but Shiva as well, that he was impressed with. "You trained Shiva well...you might have made a good Tamer." He left his commentary at that, waiting to see what Jace responded with next, as Ladon continued to fidget about, still in the throes of his Outrage.
As Jace called out Gabriel, a Kirlia, Tyson smiled, nodding to confirm the next stage of the battle as the Psychic type performed a Lucky Chant. Tyson gave no order as Ladon prepared for the next wave of his Outrage attack, knowing that, now his Dragonair was in his rampaging fit, he would not stop until he tired himself to the point of confusion.
But as Ladon charged, Jace calling for his Kirlia to use Confusion, Tyson knew Ladon wouldn't have time to even exhaust himself...Shiva's Dragon Rush had hit him hard, and Tyson doubted Ladon could dodge, or even withstand this next attack. And sure enough, as the Kirlia's eyes glowed, a brief glow surrounded Ladon as the pulse of psychic energy struck him, causing him to cry out weakly as the mental attack rammed home, stopping his Outrage charge in its tracks. The Dragonair wavered for a brief moment, clearly trying to keep it together, before crooning painfully and collapsing, crashing heavily to the arena floor, having finally taken too much.
Tyson made little response to his Dragonair's fall, knowing it was coming. Sighing slightly, he pulled the Dive Ball from his belt, holding it up as he recalled his companion. "Return Ladon...and fantastic job," he said, smiling lightly at the ball before returning it to his belt. Strangely, though, he did not pick a second Ball out, simply touching a Luxury Ball lightly, before turning to the Persian by his side. "Topaz, you ready to go?" he asked, getting a firm nod and a grin from the Classy Cat, before she stood, stepping out onto the arena.
The moment Topaz took her place opposite Gabriel, her green eyes narrowing at her opponent, Tyson got things moving. "Alright, Topaz, give them a Power Gem!" he called, Topaz smirking as she lowered her head, the unique golden gem place on it glowing brightly, before launching a cluster of multicoloured gem-shaped energy shapes at the Kirla, the cluster spreading as it streaked across the battle friend...a literal moving minefield of damaging energy now.

Jace grinned at the Gym Leader's compliment of his training skills, glad that Tyson was kind about his battles. Not wasting any time, however, he watched his Pokemon dole out the last attack, bringing Ladon down without causing any damage to his kirlia... Jace let out a small sigh of relief, glad that Gabriel didn't take any damage from the dragonair's brutal attacks.
Jace gave the other trainer a brief nod before talking.
"Hey, Ladon was pretty awesome... must have taken a long time to get up to that level," he complimented, grinning his signature grin once more before focusing on the battle.
He frowned slightly when Tyson sent a persian out--they were known for their Dark type moves, and Gabriel wouldn't do too well against them... but he couldn't waste his change of Pokemon, either. He had to choose wisely here... Gabriel could at least take a hit or two before switching out.
"Okay, Gabe, brace yourself and use Magical Leaf!" Jace yelled, confident that the kirlia could hold his own. He wasn't quite worried about the damage Gabriel would take--yet. His specialty was in his defense, so he could stand a hit or two.
Gabriel held up his arm as the stones peppered him, grunting in mild pain but withstanding the attack well. Blinking dust out of his eyes, he twirled in a shaolin-like move before sending multiple leaves raining down at his opponent, covering the battle field--an attack that never, ever missed, but rarely did much damage. But it would have to suffice against the very fast and evasive lioness, if what Jace had heard was true about the persian...

Tyson had been ready to give Topaz the call to dodge whatever attack the Kirlia sent her way, but faltered as the Magical Leaf attack launched...even if Topaz did dodge it, those leaves would chase her around regardless. And even if Magical Leaf was a moderately weak attack, Topaz's poor defence meant she was unlikely to be able to withstand many of those.
"Topaz, ride it out! Then Dark Pulse!" he commanded, knowing that if he was going to defeat the Kirlia, he needed to strike at her type weaknesses, and fast. Topaz, in response, let the glowing leaves rain down on her, raising a paw to shield her face, growling as the leaves peppered her form, obvious hurting, if showing no signs of truly weakening her...she may not have the best defence, but she had been Tyson's companion for almost as long as he had lived, and as such, had plenty of battling experience.
Shrugging off the attack as it ended, she snarled at the Kirlia, her gem now glowing with a black, swirling energy of negative emotion, before releasing it in a dark, menacing pulse of Dark energy that raced across the battlefield, Topaz moving even as the attack sailed across the arena, quickly darting around, using Agility to loosen herself up properly...without being commanded to by Tyson.
Not that Tyson cared...Topaz's level of battle experience was so high that she often took charge of the situation herself, launching attacks and moving completely without assistance, letting her own experiences guide her battle style...it was what made her a formidable opponent, her ability to think independently of her Trainer, and fight effectively even when Tyson made a rare mistake.

Jace smirked in satisfaction when the Magical Leaf attack hit, knowing that he'd have to use that same attack again, more than likely... Gabriel wasn't fast, but that attack never missed, and he might have to use the 'use the same attack over and over' technique. The trainer smiled when the persian went for Dark Pulse, knowing what to do.
"Gabriel, counter it with Psyschock!" Jace yelled, and the kirlia's eyes glowed again as he swept his arm across his body, a blade of psychic energy rushing forth to meet the Dark Pulse. A sort of hole was cut into the attack, making it so that the kirlia didn't take much of its damage, but it made Gabriel stagger anyways, coming once more to attention and looking determined. Good thing I had him use Lucky Chant, Jace thought to himself.
He watched in wonder as the persian zipped around the stage--she was light on her paws, indeed. Gabriel needed a bit more protection... something to stave off Topaz's fast attacks while hitting the cat with a few Magical Leaf attacks...
"Gabe, use Double Team, then Magical Leaf again!" Jace ordered, and the kirlia immediately obeyed, shuffling back and forth before doing another of his kicks to release the somewhat weak attack... his only good move against the incredibly fast Topaz.

Tyson gave a surprised nod as the Psyshock attack cut through the Dark Pulse, negating it's own power completely and ridding the pulse of the worst of its effects, meaning the Kirlia wasn't as badly hit as Tyson had hoped...he began to realise that Topaz was probably the wrong choice of Pokemon for this match, the Kirlia's Magical Leaf attack the perfect counter to Topaz's inpressive speed...but he was prepared for such an eventuality, Topaz the only Pokemon in his team that had a loophole around his no-substitution rule.
"Topaz, U-Turn! We're outclassed here!" he called, watching as Topaz once more shielded her face with a paw, yowling from the pain this time as the Magical Leaf attack started wearing her down. But once she had weathered out the attack, she raced forward, her tail glowing with a strange, Bug-type aura as she zipped across to where Gabriel's multiple, Double-Teamed forms waited. Tyson knew she was unlikely to find the right target, but her speed should allow her to strike multiple ones before the attack faded and forced her to withdraw.
Sure enough, Topaz's tail swung out, her speed as she shot across the field allowing her to strike two of the multiple Kirlia's on the battlefield, before leaping away as the Bug energy on her tail faded, quickly moving back to Tyson's end of the battlefield, the U-Turn move making her withdraw, leaving the field as she returned to Tyson's side, a look of self-disappointment on her face, clearly upset that she had been obvious out-done by the Kirlia.
Smiling lightly, Tyson knelt down, scratching the Classy Cat reasurringly behind the ears. "Easy, girl," he said soothingly. "You did your best, but this isn't your fight...I may need you later." Seeing that Topaz was feeling a little better thanks to his words, he stood back up, letting the bruised Persian take her place by his side once more as he reached for another Pokemon. "I must say, Jace, you are something else entirely...no-one has ever had such an effective counter to Topaz's agility before. But this isn't like the other Gyms around here...I don't play games!" With that declaration, he grabbed a Great Ball from his belt, hurling it out into the arena. "Alright, Darwing, let's show them why we're seen as the best!"
With a bright flash of light, Tyson's third Pokemon made it's appearance...a large, clearly powerful Salamence, which spotted the Kirlia already in play, sending it a booming, challenging roar. Darwing was considered Tyson's most brutally powerful Pokemon, one that could fight hard, and fight long. A lot of Tyson's challengers had found this Pokemon to be their undoing, with its power simply sweeping through several members of their teams.
"Alright, Darwing, Earthquake! Get rid of those doubles!" Tyson commanded, the Salamence responding by spreading its wings, rising a good distance into the air, before dropping down suddenly, landing with a powerful crash that sent the Earthquake's shockwaves rippling across the battlefield floor. Even if Gabriel's defences held up to the attack, the Kirlia's Double Team should be pretty effectively squashed, allowing Tyson to focus once more of some of Darwing's more focus, and more powerful moves.

Jace watched with satisfaction as Tyson withdrew Topaz, glad to have the trainer sweating a bit. He was quite proud of his Pokemon thus far--he'd given the Dragon Tamer a bit of a run for his money... but Jace frowned when he realized that U-Turn was being used, an attack that Gabriel would be weak to...
"Gabriel, brace yourself and use Heal Pulse!" Jace called, and the kirlia obeyed along with his doubles, blocking Topaz's attacks with just his arms. Gabriel cried out in pain before widening his stance, eyes aglow once more with healing energy. Jace noticed a big difference in the kirlia's expression--the healing move had worked. Confident, Jace shot a thumbs-up at Tyson, who then sent out arguably the most feared Pokemon he had... the salamence, Darwing.
"Uh oh..." Jace muttered under his breath, now getting nervous again. It seemed that his emotions were on a constant roller coaster here... When the salamence began to rear back in preparation for the Earthquake attack, Jace called out to Gabriel.
"Brace, Gabe, you can make it!"
The kirlia gritted his teeth and hunched down, prepared for the worst as the Ground attack shook him, knocking him to the ground. Gabriel got back up shakily after the attack, looking worn out. The doubles he'd just created as a distraction flickered away as he struggled with his exhaustion.
"Come on, just a bit longer! Calm mind and Psyshock!" Jace ordered, and Gabriel complied once more. An aura of light surrounded the Pokemon as he charged up his energy before releasing it in the form of his signature move--the psychic blade shot across the arena, straight at the dragon-type Pokemon... Hopefully Jace could find a way to take the salamence down before his Pokemon were defeated left and right... It seemed that Gabriel wasn't going to last much longer at this rate, even with his amazing defense.

Tyson let a small smirk grace his features as Darwing's Earthquake did it's job, Gabriel's double flickering out of existance as the real one staggered from the force of the powerful Ground attack, clearly beginning to hurt. Darwing's raw power often overwhelmed opponents, and as the Kirlia went for the counter, Tyson knew it was time to finish this round of the battle.
As the Kirlia started on Jace's next string of commands, Tyson followed up with some of his own. "Dodge that, Darwing! Then finish it with Crunch!" The Salamence roared once more, taking to the air as it attempted to dodge the blade of psychic energy heading its way. But Darwing's weakness lay in it's large size, and despite having some small agility talent in the air, he was a large target, and despite his best efforts, the Psyshock attack still struck against his shoulder, ripping a low grunt of pain from the Salamence...it was unpleasant, but the massive Pokemon could take plenty more of those, shrugging off the discomfort of the attack as it swooped in, jaws wide and glowing with Dark energy as it prepared to deliver a solid Dark attack with its massive jaws, one Tyson was confident would rip through the last of the Kirlia's defences.

Jace scowled at Tyson's smug smirk, irked that he was at another disadvantage... he was the first to have a Pokemon faint, and now he'd have a second one go down? Looked like he didn't really have much of a choice, but Jace wouldn't let the kirlia go down without one last blow...
"Gabriel, psyschock... NOW!" Jace shouted, leaning forward, a fierce look coming across his features. Gabriel's eyes became fierce as they glowed again, the psychic energy shooting straight at the dragon's head as it came in for the final attack... Jace whooped in joy as the slicing energy went right for Darwing's open jaws, a sensitive area in any Pokemon--but would it have as much of an effect as Jace wished?
He winced as the Crunch attack landed, biting Gabriel's side and probably leaving quite a few bruises... as expected, the kirlia fell, crying out in pain as it did so.
"Great job, Gabe! Now, return!" He expanded the Poke ball and allowed the kirlia to zoom back towards it, hand already on the ball he knew he'd use next.
"Now, Rowan! Show 'im what you've got!" Jace shouted, eyes blazing. The thrill of the battle was racing through his veins now, and he could hear the blood rushing as it pumped in his heart... "Agility!"
The fearow complied, shrieking as he took to the air, twirling quickly around the salamence. It was apparent that Rowan made a good opponent against the dragon already--speed and smaller size could give Jace the upper hand if the bird didn't get hit...
"Come on, come on...." Jace muttered, waiting for the dragon to make an attack... Rowan darted back and forth, watching Darwing with sharp eyes--the bird's specialty was Mirror Move, something that used the opponent's strength against them--all that was needed was for the dragon to use a move strong enough to damage it...

Tyson winced as Jace ordered the Kirlia to go down fighting with one last Psyshock attack, fired into Darwing's open mouth a practically point-blank range, causing the Salamence to roar in pain even as it clamped down on the Kirlia, forced to either take the last-gasp blow or call off his own strike. The last Psyshock attack had hurt though...striking a sensitive area. Darwing was made of strong stuff, but even Tyson knew that last one must have hurt.
As the Kirlia was recalled, no longer able to battle after that last Crunch attack, Tyson gave Jace another impressed nod, not bothering with words...none were needed, Jace already knew that Gabriel had done a fantastic job, especially since it gave Topaz a run for her money. Then Jace called out his next Pokemon, a Fearow named Rowan, clearly ready to give Darwing the best fight the large bird could muster up.
"Darwing, don't give it a chance!" Tyson called as Jace started up on another run with Agility...Darwing would have trouble against a fast Pokemon. "Hit it with Dragon Claw, now!" The Salamence roared in response, it's claws glowing with the draconian energy as it launched a strong swipe at the nimble Fearow...Dragon Claw was Darwing's signature move, and thanks to the Salamence's impressive power, could deal some very serious damage, as long as it hit.
