The trainer swallowed nervously as he came upon the gates of the Chaos Gym at last. A trickle of sweat trailed down the back of his neck. He pushed his messy black locks out of his green eyes, sizing up the gate. This is it... he thought to himself. His companion, a small vulpix, nodded solemnly, being able to read Jace's outermost thoughts.
- We'll do it together, Jace, whether we win or lose, -[/i] she said telepathically, her tone reassuring. He smiled at her, grateful for her presence.
"Yeah... thanks, Vi, I needed that. You probably should get into your Poke ball, though, so we at least have a little bit of mystery about us--wouldn't want the Gym Leader to know what Pokemon I have yet," he answered.
She nodded again in agreement and allowed herself to be returned to her Poke ball. With a final, shaky breath, Jace pushed open the doors. As he stepped inside, he was surprised into breathlessness at both the vastness and beauty of the Gym--he noted the marvellous statues and beautiful carvings adorning it, saw the huge battle field and the stadium seating around it...
He saw Tyson at the far side of the field, looking every part the Dragon Tamer he was. Cape, boots, mysterious aura... Jace felt immediately intimidated, but he fixed his face so that he looked a bit more confident.
"Tyson Collins?" He asked, finally coming up upon his (hopefully) opponent. Jace's voice didn't come out quite as manly as he wanted it to. "Hello, my name is Jace Timbre... I wish to challenge you to a battle."

Tyson watched as the doors to his stadium opening, his features...presently hidden within the shadows of his cloak's upturned hood...schooled into calm neutrality, not giving any emotion away. His Persian, Topaz, sitting beside him, was less careful about her express, eager anticipation clear on the pale-furred feline's features...another battle was imminent.
As the challenging Trainer, who Tyson had been alerted was coming, entered, Tyson made a negligable movement of his shoulders, ensuring his black cloak was completely encircling him, ensuring that the majority of his body, aside from his boots, were lost within its folds. He enjoyed the mystery surrounding this look, even if it would be unmasked soon enough. It reminded challengers of who they were facing, and that he was not to be taken lightly...there was a reason one had to have faced off in a Regional Championship as a prerequisite to his Gym.
As the man asked if he was, in fact, the Tyson Collins in charge of this Gym, Tyson simply responded with a casual, but obvious nod of his head, letting the man continue to speak as he identified himself as one Jace Timbre, before requesting a challenge. Despite the man's attempts to keep his composure, Tyson could see the lingering nervousness, and for one, did not blame the man. He had built a reputation around himself...one that even left some Elite Four members nervous, and even gave a couple of Regional Champions cause for second thoughts.
But Tyson kept his focus on the trainer in front of him, knowing who he was...he remember this man taking on Vimenta's Elite Four just a couple of weeks ago...and beating them all. This Jace was still yet to face the Regional Champion in battle, and Tyson assumed he was using this Gym as a test...a trial to see if he was truly ready to face Vimenta's Champion.
Beneath the shadows of his cloak, Tyson gave Jace a casual smile. "Well, Jace Timbre, welcome to the Chaos Gym, for starters. I am indeed Tyson Collins, and I accept the challenge presented. Do you understand the rules set out by this Gym, and understand that breaching these rules will forfeit your challenge for the Chaos Badge?" he asked. His voice was neutral, but beneath the mask, he was mildly frustrated that he had to go through these formal proceedings before each battle...but customs were customs, and as a Gym Leader, he had to respect them.
But beneath all that, Tyson felt a mild sense of excitement, one he could see Topaz was feeling in her tense stance. Jace had proven to be a Trainer with immense potential, and Tyson could already tell that this battle was going to prove one of the most interesting he had faced as Gym Leader so far. As he waited to for Jace's confirmation of the rules, his hand, still hidden inside the folds of his closed cloak, reached for his belt, getting ready to call on his first Pokemon...it was tradition was the Gym Leader to send out their Pokemon first, and give the challenger the first mild advantage.

As the Gym Leader turned to face him, Jace noticed the persian sitting next to him, looking eager for a battle. For some reason, this made Jace feel a little calmer, and the excitement began to tingle through his extremeties. He could see the same eagerness in Tyson's eyes, though he'd tried to appear stoic. Feeling a little bit braver, Jace straightened up to be taller, his heart pounding in his chest.
"Yes, I've studied the rules for this gym before coming here," Jace promised. "I'm ready to battle you!" The last statement came out as a shout, the imminence of a tough and challenging battle making Jace suddenly become more confident. The thrill of the challenge raced through his veins, and he waited for Tyson to make his first move...
'Viola, Rowan, Shiva, Rast, Gabriel, Taro... we can do this!

Tyson gave a small, lopsided smile as the challenger confirmed his understanding of the rules, seeming to gain more confidence as he grew accustomed to his mysterious look. As the trainer proclaimed himself ready, Tyson actually gave a low, short chuckle, his lopsided smile broadening into a full smirk.
"Well, let's get started, then!" he called back, no longer hiding his eagerness as he reached a dark-skinned hand out from beneath his cloak, pulling his hood down, revealing his equally dark-skinned face, along with his midnight hair, to the room, before throwing the front of the cloak open, freeing his hands and exposing the rest of his Dragon Tamer uniform, removing the mystery and revealing the confidence and power underneath. In his right hand, he now held a small, blue Dive Ball, obviously his choice of first Pokemon.
As Tyson expanded the Dive Ball to full size, he took a brief moment to nod to the referee standing off to the side, the woman watching both Trainers intently, keen gaze ready to catch any rule infringement, and make the official call of whether a Pokemon was out of the battle or not. The referee gave single nod back, signalling that Tyson could begin the battle whenever he was ready.
Turning back to Jace, Tyson smiled once more. "Alright, Jace, let's get this party started! Ladon, let's go!" With that call, he hurled the Dive Ball out over the black half of the arena, a bright flash of light bursting from the Ball as it opened, materialising into a long, blue, snake-like Pokemon, which gave a loud, aggressive croon...Tyson's first choice for this battle was his Dragonair, Ladon...and he looked ready to go.

Jace braced himself as the other trainer threw aside his cloak to retrieve his first Pokemon, and though he thought the cape was intimidating at first, he was suddenly aware that the strength came not from the Dragon Tamer's clothing, but his confidence in battle and self-assurance in his Pokemon. When the dragonair named Ladon appeared before his eyes, Jace was ready. He already knew most of the Gym Leader's team, and he'd already thought of which Pokemon he would use--Shiva, his own dragonair.
Though Jace knew, as a trainer, that Shiva would be just as weak to Ladon's moves as Ladon would be to hers, it was sort of a personal choice to test how well he'd trained his dragonair versus Tyson's. Shiva had been all for the idea, and had trained hard for this battle. So, with a grin on his face, Jace placed one hand on the Poke ball contained the dragon Pokemon and thumbed his nose.
"Well, here it goes! Go, Shiva! Give 'em all you've got!" Jace shouted, and the beautiful dragonair female materialized, giving out a high-pitched, melodic cry. She stared down her opponent with liquid-black eyes full of intelligence and a soft, powerful sort of confidence. Tilting her head, she glanced at Jace, awaiting his instructions.
"All right, girl, use Dragon Dance!" He shouted, and immediately, she danced back and forth, loosening her body and warming up, her body quickly darting back and forth. Jace watched Ladon and Tyson carefully. "Slam, Shiva!" He shouted, but she knew this tactic--rush in to attack, and if it didn't land use her speed to break away quickly and await Jace's next order.

As Jace's Dragonair appeared, Tyson cocked one eyebrow in mild surprise. The first round of this battle would be two Dragonairs taking each other on, which Tyson knew would prove to be a very fascinating match...a true test of strategy and skill.
As Jace called for Shiva to use Dragon Dance to warm up, Tyson decided the best option would be to mimic him for now...no point giving Jace too many advantages, since he had a reputation to protect. "Alright, Ladon, use your Dragon Dance!" he commanded, noting with very mild worry that Ladon took a second longer than usual to respond to his command, seemingly snapping himself out of a trance. Jace had identified Shiva as a female, and the Dragonair did seem to have a particularly graceful look to her...Tyson's best guess was that Shiva's beauty had distracted Ladon for a brief moment.
The slight hesitation gave Shiva the chance to launch the offensive first, Jace's command being followed up by the graceful Dragon-type immediately, the Slam attack already incoming as Ladon's own Dragon Dance came to a close. But even with Shiva charging his own Dragonair, Tyson remained calm, confident in Ladon's abilities. "Ladon, dodge and counter with Dragon Rush!" he called, Ladon moving even as he spoke. "Show 'em how it's really done!"
This time, Ladon showed no hesitation, his initial shock at Shiva's beauty having passed, allowing his battling mindset to kick in properly. Before Tyson had even finished his command, Ladon moved, his snake-like body twisting intricately, slipping around Shiva's Slam attack with the grace and skill Dragonair's were renowned for. Despite this, however, Ladon's initial hesitation cost him the precious split-second he really needed, and as such, the Slam attack just managed to graze his long body, although it was a minor, glancing hit, one Ladon shrugged off with pretty much no trouble at all.
Then came the counterattack, the male dragon shrieking menacingly as it twisted around, charging at Shiva, eyes narrowed in an attempt to scare and intimidate his opponent, the orbs on his tails glowing with a faint crimson energy as the Dragon Rush attack prepared to drive itself home.

Jace smiled at the look of surprise at his Pokemon choice on Tyson’s face—at least he was throwing a couple of unexpected curve balls at his opponent. He was also pleased with the effect Shiva’s beauty had on Ladon, knowing that that little detail could be used at one point in the battle… better do it soon, before the other dragonair got used to the lithe female. And then, the slam attack had somewhat landed, doing mild damage to the other dragonair… Jace almost whooped for joy, but he knew that he needed to focus.
“Shiva, dodge that attack!” Jace shouted, but the dragonair was already doing so, her long body whipping about to leap up and above Ladon. Shiva’s speed was amazing, and she was intelligently using it to her advantage without the guidance of her trainer. But Jace noted, with a bit of an impressed stare, that Ladon’s Dragon Rush was executed perfectly—he looked long and sharp like an arrow, air whipping past his feathered ears. “All right, girl, use Thunder Wave!” Jace ordered. Shiva blinked prettily before focusing, summoning up the electric element.
Jace felt so proud of her already… she’d impressed Tyson, hit Ladon, AND had already dodged a strong attack… maybe they had a chance of defeating the Dragon Tamer after all.

Tyson watched the battle carefully, both eyebrows heading towards his hairline as Ladon's perfectly-executed Dragon Rush was just as perfectly dodged by Shiva. The opposing Dragonair was clearly just as swift and agile as his own, removing the huge advantage Ladon's speed tended to give him in battles. His hunch had been correct, this battle would prove to be his most interesting.
But even as Jace called for a Thunder Wave strike to slow Ladon down, Tyson's calm confidence never faltered...he knew his Pokemon, knew how they hard they had all worked in their training, and trusted Ladon to show him everything he had. "Oh, no you don't! Ladon, counter with Ice Beam!" he shouted, calling on of Ladon's more exotic moves, something he had specifically taught the Dragonair.
Ladon, his missed Dragon Rush attack having already died down, turned around to face Shiva once more, catching her brief, pretty blink, a clear attempt at distracting him. His earlier hesitation had been because he was caught off-guard, however, and now that he was focused, such minor attempts at distracting him were very likely to fail.
The hesitation from her blink was less than a split-second, more from confusion that Shiva would waste time like that than anything else, before he, too, charged into action, the horn on his head glowing a pale blue colour, before firing off a jagged bean of icy-cold energy directly at Shiva...and not a moment too soon, either, as Shiva's pulse of paralysing electricity fired right back, the two attacks meeting in the middle, Ice and Electric elements combining before the combined energy exploded rather forcefully, knocking Ladon a couple of feet backwards and and causing Tyson to take his own step back to balance himself, his cloak flapping behind him.
As Tyson stood up straight again, he smiled as he noted Ladon was still up and running...the two Dragonairs had put some distance between them before that attack, and as such, were not close enough to the detonation to be badly hurt by it. But Tyson frowned, decided it was time to see just what Shiva was capable of. "Dodge this," he whispered under his breath, before calling out to his friend. "Ladon, Surf!" he commanded, smiling slightly.
Ladon shook off the effects of the explosion, before narrowing his eyes in concentration, his neck and tail orbs all glowing a bright blue as a massive wave of water appeared to just rise out of the ground in front of Ladon, spreading to cover the entire width of the battlefield even as it rushed at Shiva, Tyson knowing that this attack, because of its all-encompassing nature, was nigh on impossible to dodge...which was exactly what he was counting on.

Jace's smile vanished when Ladon turned right around and countered Shiva's attack, meeting the electric force with ice. Shiva barely skimmed away from the attack, her tail feeling the bite of the icy shards as she zoomed out of the way. She let out a cry before whipping in an about-face to meet Ladon head-to-head again, but wasn't in any position to dodge a huge attack like the Surf one Ladon was using...
"Sh-Shiva, dive under the wave!" Jace shouted, rattled by Ladon's quick moves and Tyson's counter. The dragon did so, but it didn't change the fact that she'd be at least slightly damaged by the powerful water attack. She broke the surface, taking in a lungful of air and shaking off the aftereffects of the wave.
"Shiva, snap out of it and use agility like we've practiced!" Jace called to his dragonair, worried a bit about the damage she'd taken but confident that she would handle it just fine... "Come on, girl, we can do it!"
But she'd already begun her twirling, curving dance, her coils whipping about as her muscles loosened. She whipped about until she was right behind the other dragonair, but knowing how fast this other Pokemon was, anything was possible...
"Dragon Rush!" Jace called, and she immediately sprang forward, straight towards Ladon...

Tyson watched as Jace called for Shiva to weather the attack, impressed by his quick thinking under pressure...having Shiva dive under the wave, avoiding the brunt of the attack, was an ingenious move...one that made Tyson aware that Ladon may just have met his match...
But Tyson remained calm, calling for Ladon to match Shiva's Agility with another Dragon Dance, this one more designed to work the male Dragonair into a bit of a frenzy rather than loosen himself up...the battle had already done that for him. But Tyson knew that Agility's speed advantages were going to work their magic soon, and he prepared for Shiva's next attack, knowing it would be swift...and the Dragoanir was already fast enough as it was.
When the Dragonair whipped behind Ladon as Jace called for Dragon Rush, Tyson knew this was not going to end well...Shiva was already moving, and Ladon had seen her, but knew she was too fast this time. "Ladon, brace!" he yelled, praying his Dragonair had time to enact some sort of defensive measure. Tyson had trained Ladon heavily in more defensive tactics lately, in an attempt to throw opponents off-balance...Dragon-types were known for their aggressive offense, and poor defence...but Ladon's defensive capabilities were generally better than average, even if his raw power had been sacrificed a little.
Ladon only just had time, twisting in such a way that the menacing, ruthless charge by Shiva would not strike anything sensitive, before the female collided, Ladon shrieking in pain as the powerful Dragon attack slammed home, driving him across the battlefield. He crashed back to the arena floor heavily, rolling several times...before using the momentum of the roll to pull himself back up, bruised, battered, and obviously running out of stamina...but somehow still fighting.
Tyson grinned as his companion looked his way, before noticing a new gleam in Ladon's eyes...that last attack had hurt...a lot...and he wanted to repay the favour. "Alright, Ladon," Tyson called. "Give them a Dragon's true power...Outrage!"
Ladon's response was immediate...and frightening. It's eyes turned a fierce crimson colour as he turned face Shiva, those eyes then narrowed, clearly as enraged as the move he was winding up for suggested. With a defiant battle shriek, the bruised Dragonair appeared to explode with energy, a vicious, rippling shockwave of draconian energy launching out as the devastingly powerful Dragon attack engaged. The after-affects would be nasty for Ladon, but maybe, just maybe this could put an end to this round of the battle.
